Session #3 - July 1, 2000
"He's a frail old man.  I didn't know he had goons backing him up!" -- Early Hutz

In game time: January 15 - 16, 1925
The Victims: Bernard, Nick, Early, William
Summery: The investigators are summonned to the hotel room of writer Jackson Elias who they've worked with in the past.  He claims he has new information about the massacred Carlyle Expedition.  The investigators arrive too late, Elias has been ritualistically murdered.  However, thanks to William picking the door lock they do catch his assalents seaching the room.  A brief fight erupts but the investigators outgun the men and they flee down the fire escape in order to get away.  The investigators do manage to find a letter and a business card, though they didn't search the room particularly well.  They stick around to answer the police's questions and find that Elias is not the first person to be killed in this manner.  After a good nights sleep, they begin searching into the clues they found.  The letter leads to Miriam Atwright at Harvard who was looking into a book for Elias entitled Africa's Dark Secrets.  The book mysteriously vanished, however.  The symbol appears to be that of an obscure Kenyan cult called The Cult of the Bloody Tongue, but no more information is available than that.  Early and Bernard head down to the importers while Nick and William do other research and meet Silas N'Rwane.  The importers has a small store and office in front of a larger building and apparently specializes in African goods.  Silas claims to have never heard of Elias, but Early is positive he's lying and pushes him about it.  Silas attempts to get Early out of there, but when Early won't leave he calls for help.  Burley men begin entering the storefront so Bernard pulls out a gun and a firefight begins that results in him getting taken down with a near fatal wound in one shot.  Early takes Silas hostage and drives Bernard to the hospital, but can't keep him there.  Nick and William concerned about their friend go to investigate the importers only to find signs of recent trouble.
Plot Threads: What happened to Africa's Dark Secrets and why does Elias want it?  Why did the cult kill Elias?  What is going on at the importers?  What information about the Carlyle expedition did Elias want to share?

Most Valuable Character: Nick for developing the EDS (even if it didn't work as intended this week)
Biggest Blunder: Early starting a near fatal shoot out at the importers
