Session #11 - September 9, 2000
"Well that would explain the callouse attitude." -- Early Hutz

In game time: February 4, 1925
The Victims: Eric, Roland, James, Alexander, Early
Summery: Upon waking in the morning, the investigators decide to go and examine the Penhew Foundation.  Speaking with the receptionist, they immediately get an interview with Edward Gavigan who has run the foundation since the untimely death of Sir Aubry Penhew as part of the Carlyle expedition.  They find out that Jackson Elias met with Gavigan in London, but Gavigan claims to not know anything more about that.  The investigators put forth the idea that some of the expedition may have survived and Gavigan refuses to support it in any way.  When they raise the possibilty that he doesn't want the expedition found since he's currently the head of the foundation, Gavigan ends the interview and kicks them out of his office.  They do get a copy of the itinerary of the Carlyle Expedition, though.  Roland decides to take what they know to local papers while the rest remain behind.  They spot Gavigan leaving the office and follow him to a bank on which he returns.  Roland finds out at the Sun that Gavigan is highly respected and will soon be knighted himself for his contributions to archeology.  As such they won't run anything scandalous about him without distinct proof.  Roland then takes his information back to the Scoop where Mickey Mahoney is very interested in the story.  He agrees to have a couple of his men keep an eye on Gavigan.  The group reunites at the inn for lunch and find that they are being watched by thugs.  They decide to take a side trip to the British Museum to see if a translation of the copy of the tablet they had was ready and are informed that it could take years if they ever make one since they only have one other sample of the writing and no compariable translations.  While there they look up the other sample of the writing and find it connected to the journal of sea captain who sailed the Pacific in nineteenth century.  Finally, they go to the hall of records to research both Gavigan and Penhew.
Plot Threads: Why is Gavigan trying to prevent any investigation in the Carlyle Expedition?  Did he set the thugs on the investigators?  Is there a tie between the Brotherhood of the Black Pharoah and the Cult of the Bloody Tongue?  What is it with Dhashur that is so important?

Most Valuable Character: Roland for getting the idea of having the Scoop handle some of the Gavigan investigation
Biggest Blunder: Early and Roland for hitting Gavigan's sore spot and getting kicked out his office
