[Sat Jul 15 11:11:28 PDT 2000] [Keeper]: Okay, it's now Sunday January 19. The night in the hotel passed uneventfully [Keeper]: You've got the meeting with Erica Carlyle at 2pm at her estate [Nick Johnson]: Are we all going? [Keeper]: I don't know. Why don't you decide. :) [Nick Johnson]: Well, she seemed a little "high society", if you know what I mean. [Early Hutz]: She's only expecting me. We may spook her if we all go. [Nick Johnson]: Right.. [Nick Johnson]: And I don't know if she would let William and I see her anyway... [William Hollis]: i think i'll head back to my apartment and take care of a few things there [Keeper]: Catch some sleep, perhaps. :) [Early Hutz]: Get some sleep while you're there. [William Hollis]: perhaps [Nick Johnson]: Early, you are aware of what needs to be done? [Early Hutz]: I need to get a copy of the book, correct? [Nick Johnson]: Get into the safe! [Keeper]: Do we need the notes brought into the workbench again? [Early Hutz]: Let's discuss this now. Do I want to get any other information from her [Early Hutz]: The notes couldn't hurt. [Nick Johnson]: Well, I think this is where you are on shaky ground. [Nick Johnson]: You'll probably have to drop Jackson's name (since he found the whereabouts of the expidition) [Nick Johnson]: You'll probably need to drop Brady's name, as proof that some or all of the expidition is alive. [Nick Johnson]: And the papers in the safe can help us locate the Expidtion, in theory. [Early Hutz]: OK. So I'll set her up by mentioning Jackson thinks the expeditions still alive. Brady was found. We may be able to uncover the rest if we can see what's in the safe. [Nick Johnson]: Obviously, we don't want to show her the notes. [Nick Johnson]: Right. [Nick Johnson]: I think that's the best angle of attack. [Early Hutz]: Well, I'm going to head home to get cleaned up and put on my best suit. [Nick Johnson]: Ok, when you are done call William and I [Early Hutz]: At the office? [Keeper]: And William is headed back to his apartment he said... [William Hollis]: yep [Nick Johnson]: At our homes. [Nick Johnson]: We can meet somewhere when your done. [Early Hutz]: ok [Nick Johnson]: Goodluck! (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): I have an interesting proposition for you two (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): I have an interesting proposition for you two Early Hutz goes home, cleans up, puts on best suit, waits until it's time to head to estate. (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): Rather than sitting around and waiting for Early to finish (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Rather than sitting around and waiting for Early to finish (Nick Johnson whispered to Keeper): William and I? Go ahead (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): Why don't you two take roles of incidental characters in the scene (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Why don't you two take roles of incidental characters in the scene (Nick Johnson whispered to Keeper): ok (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): Nick, you're going to be Bradley Grey, Erica's lawyer and closest confidant (Nick Johnson whispered to Keeper): okdokey (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): if it's okay, i would rather not....i'm not really feeling to well right now, and would rather use the time to take care of a few things (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): He doesn't know anything that wasn't made public about the expedition, but he knows all about how robert was running the companies into the ground (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Okay then (Nick Johnson whispered to Keeper): Alrighty [Keeper]: Okay Early, we're set for you Early Hutz drives out to the estate in Bernard's car. [Keeper]: It's a long drive out to the Carlyle estate and you're met at the gate by two armed guards [Keeper]: They check with the house before opening the gate and letting you through [Keeper]: The estate is huge, it's nearly a mile from the gate to the house itself [Keeper]: As you pull up an elderly gentleman steps out of the front door to greet you [Keeper]: "Miss Carlyle will be meeting with you in the study. Please follow me." [Early Hutz]: "Thank you". Follows [Keeper]: The study is furnished in wood and leather. Erica Caryle is already there waiting for you along with a gentleman you don't recognize [Keeper]: As you walk in the door the butler announces you "Mr. Earl Hutz, madam." [Keeper]: Erica - A pleasure to meet you Mr. Hutz. This is my attorny Mr. Grey. [Early Hutz]: Hellow Miss Carlyle. Hello Mr. Grey. [Early Hutz]: "Thank you for taking the time to meet with me." Bradley Grey smiles [Keeper]: Erica - I understand you have some information about my brother. [Early Hutz]: "Yes. Are you familiar with Jackson Elias?" (Keeper whispered to Bradley Grey): He contacted you about Robert a few months back [Keeper]: Erica - I'm not familiar with him. [Bradley Grey]: "Yes, he contacted us about Robert a few months back Madam" [Early Hutz]: "He spent much of his life studying cults and writing about them. He recently died." [Bradley Grey]: "I believe he was tracing the expidition?" [Keeper]: Erica - Ah, well I don't deal with inquiries by the press into that matter [Early Hutz]: "Yes, Mr. Grey. He had been tracing the expedition. He had taken some notes on the matter, and he believed they may still be alive." Bradley Grey raises his eyebrows [Keeper]: Erica - I rather doubt that. I saw the bodies myself [Keeper]: Erica shudders thinking about it. "Grusome things." [Early Hutz]: "Were you able to make out their identities?" [Early Hutz]: Mr. Jackson was able to locate one of the surviving members of the expedition - a Mr. Jack Brady. [Keeper]: Erica - Well, I didn't find anything that was clearly him, but I left it up to the authorities to identify the bodies in that situation [Keeper]: Erica- Brady's alive? I'm not surprised he abandoned Richard [Early Hutz]: If Brady's alive, the others might also be alive. [Early Hutz]: I don't want to distrust the authorities, but perhaps the East African authorities were not ready for such an investigation. [Keeper]: Erica - I couldn't see how. No one could have survived that massacre [Bradley Grey]: "Yes, what about the bodies?" [Early Hutz]: My understanding is that it was impossible to positively identify the bodies. [Bradley Grey]: "That still doesn't prove anything" [Early Hutz]: No it doesn't. But it raises some questions. [Early Hutz]: I, for one, would like to get to the bottom of this. [Keeper]: Erica - Why would he not contact me after all this time if my brother were still alive? [Early Hutz]: I don't know the answer to that. I could speculate . . . perhaps he is being held; perhaps he has lost his memory . . . . [Keeper]: Erica - All of that seems a bit of a stretch [Early Hutz]: It might be a long shot, but it is worth investigating. [Early Hutz]: And I'm not here to ask for your financial support in that investigation. [Keeper]: Erica - Yes, perhaps it would be. [Early Hutz]: I'm looking for some information that you may have. (To Keeper) DICE for Keeper: (1d100) : 1d100=77 = [ 77 ] [Keeper]: Erica - Such as what? [Early Hutz]: In his notes, Mr. Jackson mentions that Richard had some books and perhaps some papers hidden in a safe at his estate. [Early Hutz]: These might have some information I could use. [Keeper]: Erica - You want those things? [Early Hutz]: Yes, please. [Keeper]: Erica - I believe they are quite valuable. Why should I turn them over to you? [Early Hutz]: Because it may be the only chance we have of finding your brother. [Keeper]: Erica whispers to Bradley (Keeper whispered to Bradley Grey): Erica - Perhaps he was involved with the attempted theft of the books before... (Bradley Grey whispered to Keeper): Madam its possible... (Bradley Grey whispered to Keeper): But then approaching us after an attempted theft is quite bold. (Keeper whispered to Bradley Grey): Erica - I want you office checking into his background (Bradley Grey whispered to Keeper): Done, should I do that now Madam? (Keeper whispered to Bradley Grey): Erica - It can wait til tomorrow (Bradley Grey whispered to Keeper): As you wish Madam. [Early Hutz]: ooc - are we still up and running? [Keeper]: Erica - I'm afraid those items are unavailable right now Bradley Grey continues to wisherp with Erica [Early Hutz]: Do you know when they could become available? [Keeper]: Erica - No, I'm not certain [Keeper]: Erica - Is there anything else I can help you with Mr. Hutz? [Early Hutz]: Miss Carlyle, Mr. Jackson was a good friend of mine. I believe his death was caused by his investigation. We both have personal connections to this, and I would greatly appreciate the oppportunity to help. [Keeper]: Erica - Very well, I'll be in touch should they become available Early Hutz trying to PERSUADE Ms. Carlyle. [Keeper]: Roll for me DICE for Early Hutz: (1d100) : 1d100=91 = [ 91 ] [Early Hutz]: ooc - D'oh! [Keeper]: The reply stands [Bradley Grey]: ooc heh [Early Hutz]: Thank you, Ms. Carlyle. Thank you, Mr. Grey. Bradley Grey nods [Keeper]: Erica - Good day to you, Mr. Hutz Early Hutz tries to remember everything he can about the layout here. [Keeper]: The butler escorts you back out to the car Early Hutz drives back home. [Keeper]: (Thanks, Peacedog for filling in an extra roll :) [Nick Johnson]: ooc no prob :) [Keeper]: It's nearly 5pm when you arrive home, Early Early Hutz calls William William Hollis answers the phone [William Hollis]: "hello?" [Early Hutz]: "Let's meet somewhere so we can talk with Nick." [William Hollis]: "okay, where should we meet?" [Early Hutz]: "How about the office?" [William Hollis]: "sounds good, i'll be there shortly" [Early Hutz]: "I'll call Nick." Early Hutz hangs up, calls Nick. [Nick Johnson]: "Hello?" Early Hutz wishes we had 3-way calling in the 20's. [Early Hutz]: "Nick, let's meet at the office." William Hollis secures things at his apartment and heads out to the office [Nick Johnson]: "Ok, be there in a Jiff" Nick Johnson drives to the office Early Hutz hangs up, heads to office. [Keeper]: Early is closest to the office, so he arrives there first Nick Johnson scans the streets upon arriving at the office [Keeper]: Roll, nick DICE for Nick Johnson: (1d100) : 1d100=20 = [ 20 ] (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): It's a quiet winter afternoon. Nothing much happening on the street [Keeper]: The office has been broken into and ransacked! Nick Johnson heads upstairs to Early's office [Early Hutz]: "Holy crap on a stick!" [Nick Johnson]: "good lord, its a good thing we took all the notes with us" [Keeper]: William, now would be a good time for you to arrive as well [Nick Johnson]: "Silas isn't much for subtlety is he" William Hollis arrives at the office Early Hutz tries to determine if anything's obviously missing. [Keeper]: All the filing cabnets and bookshelves have been overturned [Nick Johnson]: "They had to be looking for something we had with us" [Keeper]: Nothing obvious is gone, but then nothing valuable was stored in the office [William Hollis]: "they sure did a good job tearing up the place" [Keeper]: You'll never tell without completely reorganizing everything if a book or some papers are missing [William Hollis]: "they were probably looking for those notes..." [Early Hutz]: "Gerry's going to have a fit." [Early Hutz]: "Where did we put those notes, by the way?" [Nick Johnson]: "My trunk" [Early Hutz]: "Parked outside?" [Nick Johnson]: "Yes" [Early Hutz]: "Perhaps we shouldn't leave those alone." [Nick Johnson]: "Perhaps, but I didn't notice anyone on the street" [Nick Johnson]: "You want to go elsewhere?" William Hollis glances out the window to check on the car [Keeper]: The car is fine for the moment [Nick Johnson]: "I suspect they will be checking our houses next." [Early Hutz]: "I'm not sure, but I know I don't feel overly safe here." [William Hollis]: "what did you find out from Erica, were you able to get the stuff in the safe?" [Early Hutz]: "No luck. She said those items "weren't available" right now. I tried turning on the ol' "Hutz Charm", but it didn't work. [Nick Johnson]: "Did they seem at all receptive to the information?" [Early Hutz]: "She had some shifty attorney with her, too. Damn, I hate lawyers!" [William Hollis]: "did she say why those items were unavaulable?" [Early Hutz]: "No, but she was whispering a lot with the attorney." [Nick Johnson]: "Well, the ball is in her court, so we will have to wait and see." [Early Hutz]: "She seemed somewhat interested in finding her brother, but not as excited as I would have anticipated." [William Hollis]: "i don't know, it sounds kind of odd....why wouldn't she want to find her brother at all costs? [William Hollis]: "i think she would encourage any help" [Early Hutz]: "It could be that she's convinced herself he's dead and she doesn't want to re-awaken the memories." [Nick Johnson]: "Seriously? There could be plenty of reasons. We don't know if they were close or not. And he did have quite an appetite in his lifestyle." [Nick Johnson]: "It could be money related too, she is the sole benefactor of the estate I assume." [Early Hutz]: "With respect to the Erica, we have two options." [Early Hutz]: "One: wait and hope she sends us the information" [William Hollis]: "if she was the sole benefactor, maybe she would rather have her brother gone..." [Early Hutz]: "Two: take matters into our own hands and try to get the information." [Nick Johnson]: "Your not thinking what I think you thinking..." [Early Hutz]: "Option two is very dangerous, though." [William Hollis]: "i wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her..." [Nick Johnson]: "Early, security on that place will be tighter than a drum. I haven't seen it but..." [Early Hutz]: "The estate looked heavily armed, and I'm not sure how good of a thief I would make." [Nick Johnson]: "I'm guessing the three of us getting in is next to impossible" [Nick Johnson]: "I have to say that tryint to break into the Carlyle Estate is insanity." [Nick Johnson]: "Even then, we have to get into the safe, which presents a whole slew of complications." [Early Hutz]: "Agreed, that's why I'm not so sure about option 2." [Nick Johnson]: "I think we have to hope Ms Carlyle gets generous" [William Hollis]: "why would she have the estate heavily armed?" [Early Hutz]: "Because she's rich and paranoid." (To Keeper) DICE for Keeper: (1d100) : 1d100=22 = [ 22 ] [Nick Johnson]: "She has more money than Davy Crocket" [William Hollis]: "very paranoid it seems..." [Early Hutz]: "You're an odd one, Nick." [Early Hutz]: "Davy Crocket . . . ." [Nick Johnson]: "Nah, I think its pretty common among the rich" [Nick Johnson]: "My mom agrees with you Early, but that is besides the point." :) William Hollis shrugs [Early Hutz]: "There were two armed guards at the gate. I assume they weren't alone." [Nick Johnson]: "I doubt it" [Nick Johnson]: "We'll just have to wait for Ms Carlyle to decide if we are worth the trouble, and go on with the rest of the investigation." [Early Hutz]: "My hunch, then, is that we're giving up on the Carlyle estate. I don't think we are worth her trouble." [Nick Johnson]: "I wouldn't underestimate Erica Carlyle possibly needing us, but..." [Nick Johnson]: "As I said, the ball is in her court. There is nothing we can do, for now." [Early Hutz]: "Well, what's on the agenda for tomorrow?" [Nick Johnson]: "I think the Dr's notes should be our next stop" [William Hollis]: "let's see....on my agenda is, trying not to get killed by some crazy cult..." [Early Hutz]: "You're agenda may not work out." [Early Hutz]: "Your agenda" that is. William Hollis throws out his agenda "oh well" Nick Johnson rolls his eyes [Nick Johnson]: "Again, I think our houses might be the next targets for break ins" [Early Hutz]: "We can contact the state medical board, hoping they can give us some info on the good doctor." [Nick Johnson]: "Right, and contact his old office" [Early Hutz]: "If it still exists." [Nick Johnson]: "I'd say its a decent possibility" [Keeper]: So, what's up for this evening then? [Early Hutz]: "Did we have anything we could look up during off hours?" [Nick Johnson]: We need to straigten the office, and tell Gerry [Early Hutz]: "William, did you get any sleep?" [Nick Johnson]: He's gonna be pissed when he comes in tomorrow. [William Hollis]: "yes i did, never enough, but i did manage some" [Early Hutz]: "Good. Let's do some cleaning them." Early Hutz wonders what his cleaning skill is. Nick Johnson begins cleaning the office [William Hollis]: "okay, and i think maybe we should get those notes in here so we can keep an eye on them" [Early Hutz]: "I agree, William." Nick Johnson gets the notes out of the car and brings them to Early's office William Hollis helps clean the office [Keeper]: Over the next few hours you return the office to a semblance of order. It's going to take days to straighten out the files and the door and various fragile items are still broken, though [Nick Johnson]: The door is useless I take it? [Nick Johnson]: Someone should call Gerry, and let him know we were raided... [Keeper]: It will shut, but not latch or lock. The frame is broken as well s the handle [Keeper]: Anyone doing anything else this evening? [Early Hutz]: "He'll find out when he comes in tomorrow." [Nick Johnson]: "Uhhh, he'll be pissed and call the police" [Nick Johnson]: "We should let him know at least" [Early Hutz]: "Let's crash here. They probably won't be back since they were just here." [Nick Johnson]: "Right" [Nick Johnson]: [Nick Johnson]: [Early Hutz]: "William, if you're not going to sleep anyway, why don't you stand guard." [Early Hutz]: "I''m going to crash in my office." [Nick Johnson]: "Jeez, you have to sleep sometime" [William Hollis]: "okay, i'll do that" [William Hollis]: "i got some sleep today" [Keeper]: If that's how it's going this evening... [Early Hutz]: I think so .. . . William Hollis grabs a book to read and gets comfortable [Keeper]: ...the night passes quietly. You awaken to hear Gerry swearing loudly outside of the office [Keeper]: He violently pushes his way in and is shocked to find the place looking relatively clean. [Keeper]: (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): just so you know, i fell asleep after reading a few sentences from the book :) [Keeper]: Gerry - What the hell's going on around here? Early Hutz emerges from office. "Gerry! Welcome back!" [Nick Johnson]: "We got raided apparently" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Okay, no CON check for you tomorrow night. :) [Nick Johnson]: "We started cleaning" [Keeper]: Why would the FBI be on to us? [Nick Johnson]: "Not raided by the FBI" [William Hollis]: "i think the cult that we are investigating did this" [Keeper]: Gerry - Why didn't the police call me about this? Nick Johnson shrugs [Early Hutz]: "Because we didn't call the police." [Keeper]: Now he's furious. "Why the hell not?!" Nick Johnson doesn't want to say I told you so... [Early Hutz]: "We've got one guy in the hospital. I've been shot. We've broken a few laws in this investigation, and I'd rather keep the cops out of it." [Keeper]: Gerry - This is our office, though. I'm giving them a call right now. William Hollis thinks Early isn't going to get a promotion any time soon [Early Hutz]: "It's your call, Gerry. I just hope this doesn't shut down our investigation." [Nick Johnson]: "I wouldn't mention the cult though, just that our office was broken into" [Keeper]: Gerry - Get the hell out of here! All of you! I'll deal with this. [Early Hutz]: "Let's go, guys." [Nick Johnson]: "Sure." [Early Hutz]: "Let's go back to my place, since it's the closest. We can make some calls from there and see if Nick was right about our places being next on the ransack list." [Nick Johnson]: "Ok" [Keeper]: Well, outside the office things are bustling as businessmen head back to work after the weekend William Hollis heads outside taking the notes with him Nick Johnson gets in his car and waits for anyone who needs a ride Nick Johnson scans the streets [Early Hutz]: "Shotgun!" [Keeper]: Roll, Nick DICE for Nick Johnson: (1d100) : 1d100=6 = [ 6 ] William Hollis puts the notes in the trunk and gets into the car (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): A squad car is coming up the street aparently heading for the offic [Nick Johnson]: "Ahhh, the cavalry" Nick Johnson gets in the car and drives to Early's [Early Hutz]: "Excuse me?" [Nick Johnson]: "Cops, the cavalry" [Nick Johnson]: "They're here" Nick Johnson points to the squad car [Early Hutz]: "Well, then I'm glad we're leaving." Nick Johnson drives to Early's [Keeper]: The icy streets give you some difficulty heading back to Early's place, but you manage to arrive safely [Early Hutz]: Any signs of break in? [Keeper]: None that you can see Early Hutz enters apartment. Nick Johnson follows Early [Keeper]: Your apartment is identical to how you last left it [Early Hutz]: "Well, they haven't made it here, yet." [Nick Johnson]: "Likely waiting for night time, if they will come" [Early Hutz]: "Who's going to call the state medical board?" [Keeper]: Anyone? Early Hutz waits for someone to answer his question. [Nick Johnson]: jeeh, we're falling over each other for the chance :) [William Hollis]: "i think you should Early" [Nick Johnson]: "Well, schmoozing isn't my specialty" [Early Hutz]: "It's always me, isn't it?" [Early Hutz]: "What's the doctor's name again?" [William Hollis]: "well, you're the one with your own office after all..." [Early Hutz]: "Never mind. It's Rober Huston." Early Hutz calls medical board. [Nick Johnson]: "By the way, the notes mention to check his files..." [Nick Johnson]: "As opposed to his notes...a minor detail I wanted to point out" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "NYSMB, Records office. How may I help you?" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Hi. I'm looking for some info on Dr. Robert Huston." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Are you a state accreditted doctor, sir?" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "No, I'm not. But I'm looking for his partners." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I don't need any personal or confidential information." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Hold, please." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): The line goes dead for a few minutes. "Dr. Huston had a private practice that closed on his death. All other records are sealed except to medical professionals." [Nick Johnson]: ooc - afk for 2 secs (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Did he have any partners?" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "No, he worked his practice alone." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Thank you." Hangs up. [Early Hutz]: I'll wait for Nick to come back. [Nick Johnson]: ooc sorry :) ready [Early Hutz]: "Allright. We need someone to impersonate a doctor." [William Hollis]: "why?" [Nick Johnson]: "ok..." [Early Hutz]: "Huston's records are sealed to anyone but medical professionals." [Early Hutz]: "They have to be state accreditted, too." [Nick Johnson]: "We don't know any doctors we could have get the files for us?" [William Hollis]: "ah....okay, so i assume you didn't get much info?" Early Hutz wonders if we know any doctors . . . . (To Keeper) DICE for Keeper: (1d100) : 1d100=24 = [ 24 ] [Keeper]: Well... [Nick Johnson]: "Impresinating a doctor isn't going to be easy; I am not sure we can fake it..." [Nick Johnson]: "If we get busted, that's jail time." [Early Hutz]: "No, I didn't get much." [Keeper]: Your cousin's a doctor Early. [Early Hutz]: "Wait! I'll call my cousin! He's a doctor!" [William Hollis]: how convenient :) [Early Hutz]: "Good ol' Farley Hutz." [Keeper]: Gotta keep 'em moving somehow. Nick Johnson claps his hands merrily Early Hutz calls Farley. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Hello?" [Nick Johnson]: "Strange family" [William Hollis]: "i hope he's home" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Farley, it's your cousin, Early. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Early! Where were you at Christmas?" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Work. It's been killing me lately." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "We missed seeing you! The kids are getting so big. You've got to come by and see them sometime." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I'd love to. Say, I'm calling because I need a favor." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): Look, I won't set you up with that nurse (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "No. It's professional, this time. Although she is a cutie . . . ." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I need some information on a deceased doctor for a story." William Hollis wanders around Early's home looking at any interesting items he can find (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "So..." Nick Johnson looks for some personal items of Early's to rifle through (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "His name's Robert Huston, and the State Board says his records are only open to medical professionals." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "There can be an awful lot there. What are you looking for?" [Keeper]: You find Early's collection of Pokemon William Hollis looks for something he can practice his lockpicking skills on (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Anything related to Richard Carlyle." [Keeper]: Wait, that's not right Nick Johnson P [Early Hutz]: I thought I hid the Pokemon. Nick Johnson goes to Early's room to see if he sleeps with a teddy bear or blankie (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Well, I've got patients until one. I can go by this afternoon, though." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): That would be great. I can come by and pick anything up this evening. [Keeper]: Neither, but he must love himself a lot to have a mirror over his bed... Nick Johnson giggles William Hollis goes into the kitchen and checks if there is anything to eat (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I'll see you then. Come by and have supper!" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Sounds great!" [Keeper]: Just one package of saltines and some old milk (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Good-bye!" [Early Hutz]: Hey! Stay away from my dinner! William Hollis takes the saltines and pockets them (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): I"ll see you tonight, Farley" [Early Hutz]: "OK, guys, Farley's going to get me those records tonight." [Keeper]: Early's phone rings... [Nick Johnson]: "Super." [Keeper]: *RIIING!* [Early Hutz]: "Hello?" [Early Hutz]: Of course, that was after I picked up the phone. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Mr. Hutz? This is Mr. Grey Erica Carlyle's attorney." William Hollis looks at what reading materials Early has around his home (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Yes, Mr. Grey. It's good to hear from you. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "We have become aware that you may have more in common with us than we thought and the information that you requested is available." [Keeper]: Just old Penthouse Forums... (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Great! Can I come by and pick it up this afternoon? (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I'm afraid not. Miss Carlyle sent the books to an antique dealer in Manhatten to have them appraised. She has arranged to have you view them there." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): That's fantastic. Can I ask what prompted the change of heart? (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "We had a similar break-in to you ourselves a few weeks back and we believed they were looking for those books." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "That convinced us that you were not from the same party." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I see. Where should I go to view the books?" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): Grey rattles off an adress that's uptown. (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): :scribbles it down. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Good-bye, Mr. Hutz." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Goodbye. And thank you." [Early Hutz]: Well, that was Miss Carlyle's attorney. [Early Hutz]: It's a good thing we didn't break in last night. [Early Hutz]: [Nick Johnson]: "Why?" [Nick Johnson]: "Besides the obvious" [Early Hutz]: We have been given the opportunity to view the books at an antique dealer today. [Nick Johnson]: "Excellent!" [Early Hutz]: There is one thing that concerns me, though. [William Hollis]: "that's good to hear" Nick Johnson listens intently [Early Hutz]: "He said they had a change of heart due to a break-in a few weeks ago that was similar to ours." [Early Hutz]: "But I'm not sure how they knew about our break-in." [Nick Johnson]: "The rich often have friends everywhere" [Early Hutz]: "I suppose it's possible that they heard about it, but I think we need to be very careful." [Nick Johnson]: "I'd guess the Attorney has connections in the police" [Nick Johnson]: "I can't say I am surprised that they knew" [Nick Johnson]: "Though I agree caution is in order." [Early Hutz]: "Let's head on over there. I want to get this done so I don't miss my cousin tonight." Nick Johnson nods [William Hollis]: "let's get going then" Nick Johnson heads to his car, and waits for those who need rides [Early Hutz]: "Shotgun!" William Hollis heads out to the car and gets in Nick Johnson drives the gang to the antique dealer's Early Hutz gives Nick the address [Keeper]: It's starting to snow when you get to the antique dealer's shop. [Nick Johnson]: "I think we're being followed" [William Hollis]: "you always think you are being followed Nick..." [Early Hutz]: "But I agree with him this time." [Nick Johnson]: "Better safe than sorry" William Hollis tries the door of the shop Nick Johnson pulls up to the shop [Keeper]: The door pushes open and a little bell rings. [Keeper]: Only not quite that pungent [Keeper]: Nope, two more antique dealers [Keeper]: They're all over the place in this neighborhood Early Hutz looks around. [Nick Johnson]: "Is Ms Carlyle supposed to meet us here?" William Hollis backs out of the doorway to get to the fresh air Nick Johnson scans the shop [Keeper]: Roll Nick and Early [Early Hutz]: "No. She jsut arranged a viewing for us." It just ducked behind a wardrobe left in the middle of the shop (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): There's blood on the floor (Keeper whispered to Nick Johnson): It's drying, but still tacky [Nick Johnson]: "Guys, there's blood on the floor" Early Hutz pulls out his gun and points it at a wardrobe. Nick Johnson moves slowly to the wardrobe, carefully avoiding the blood (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): No, he's dressed in a heavy coat with the collar pulled up to hide his face [Early Hutz]: "Be careful!" Nick Johnson inches up to the side of the wardrobe [Early Hutz]: "Whatever it was, it wasn't human!" Nick Johnson motions for the other two be ready [Keeper]: A low sound like "Nrrrrrwww" is coming from behind it (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): is he watching me? Early Hutz keeps gun pointed at wardrobe. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Yes, he is definitely looking in your direction. [Nick Johnson]: something flying? [Early Hutz]: "What was that!" [Keeper]: It's a small cat that's now sitting in the store window Nick Johnson laughs nervously (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): what kind of shops are across the street near the guy? [Early Hutz]: ooc - I was hoping it was a mouse [Nick Johnson]: "Obviously not the killer" [Early Hutz]: "I don't know. Cat's are evil." Nick Johnson snorts (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): More antique dealers. It looks like the one he's standing in front of specializes in art [Nick Johnson]: "And you say I'm paranoid" [Early Hutz]: "I saw something moving in the shadows." [Nick Johnson]: "Who wants to be the books are missing?" [Nick Johnson]: "What shadows?" [Early Hutz]: [Keeper]: Roll Nick and Earluy [Early Hutz]: "Behind the wardrobe." [Early Hutz]: "The blood leads to the back room. Let's check it out." William Hollis pokes his head into the shop and says "i'l be right back guys, i'm going to check out something across the street" [Nick Johnson]: "Ok, but be careful" [Early Hutz]: "Be careful!: [William Hollis]: "don't worry, i will" Nick Johnson follows the blood trail, careful not to step in it Early Hutz moves to the side of the door. [Early Hutz]: The door to the back room, that is. [Keeper]: You push open the door to the back room to reveal the disembowled body of a middle aged gentleman [Nick Johnson]: "dear god" [Keeper]: The same symbol you saw carved into Elias's forehead is marked on his [Early Hutz]: "Where have we seen this, before?" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): About 50 yards [Early Hutz]: "Let's take a quick look around for any sign of the books." [Keeper]: No killers. The body is cold and the blood is drying Nick Johnson looks around for the books, careful not to step into blood (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i'll keep following him at a steady pace....looking for any shortcuts i could use to get ahead of him Early Hutz takes a quick look around for any sign of the books. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): He appears to be heading for the subway station [Early Hutz]: "He looks like he's been dead for a while. We're probably safe." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): It's a straight line to there [Keeper]: There's a large number of books around the shop Nick Johnson begins looking at them [Keeper]: Many rare first editions and an occasional manuscript (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i'll cautiously follow him to the subway, wary of anyone else that may be around [Early Hutz]: ooc - what's the name of the book? Secrets of Africa? [Nick Johnson]: Dark Secrets of Africa I believe Early Hutz looks for "Dark Secrets of Africa" [Keeper]: Nick, most of it's popular fiction with the occasional non-fiction title thrown in [Nick Johnson]: in otherwords, not what we are looking for (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): He's decending into the subway in front of you and then I need you to roll [Early Hutz]: Is the place at all ransacked (other than having a disemboweled corpse ,that is) [Keeper]: Roll Early DICE for Early Hutz: (1d100) : 1d100=31 = [ 31 ] (To Keeper) DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=17 = [ 17 ] (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): You catch a glimse of him breaking into a run. If it was, they've taken it." [Nick Johnson]: "Lets get William and leave" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): does he make it onto the train? [Early Hutz]: "Let's get out of here and call Mr. Grey." Early Hutz leaves. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Yes. If you want to run after him you've got about thirty seconds to decide Nick Johnson leaves William Hollis heads back to the shop to find the others [Early Hutz]: "We've got another cult job in there." [Nick Johnson]: "What did you look for William?" [Early Hutz]: "No sign of the book." Nick Johnson motions to the care [Nick Johnson]: err car :) [Early Hutz]: "Shotgun!" [William Hollis]: "someone was watching us, i tried to follow them but they took off into the subway" [Nick Johnson]: "Lets talk on the way back to Early's" Nick Johnson frowns Nick Johnson gets into the car, begins to drive back to Early's William Hollis gets back into the car [William Hollis]: "what did you find in the shop?" [Nick Johnson]: "The antique dealer had been killed like the others." [Early Hutz]: "A body." [Nick Johnson]: "The book or books are gone" [Early Hutz]: "Let's call Mr. Grey and hope he kept a copy." I'm going to call him and say I can't meet at his house. I don't want to risk putting him in danger." Nick Johnson drives back to Early's [Nick Johnson]: "Mr Grey will be most interested in the events at the shop I assume" [William Hollis]: "perhaps we should call the cops about the shop....anonymously of course" [Nick Johnson]: "Agreed William" [Early Hutz]: "Let's let Mr. Grey know first. It may gain us some points with him." William Hollis nods Nick Johnson nods [Nick Johnson]: back at Early's now? [Keeper]: Yep. Early Hutz calls Mr. Grey. [Keeper]: The snow's getting heavier too [Nick Johnson]: "snow [Nick Johnson]: "Err Snow is getting bad, travel could be a problem at some point" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Yes?" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): This is Earl Hutz. I've got some bad news. [Nick Johnson]: "William, why don't you go make snow angels?" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): The antique dealer was dead. Disemboweled. There was no sign of the book. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Your meeting did not go well I take it?" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I see. Have you contacted the police?" [William Hollis]: "why? i can't compete with the ones you already made..." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Not yet. We know this is important to you, as well, so we thought we should let you know first. Nick Johnson was snow angel champion in junior high (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Very well. I will contact them." [Nick Johnson]: "I would have gone to state if I hadn't blown out my knee" Nick Johnson sighs Early Hutz nick johnson got beat up a lot in Jr. High [William Hollis]: "you must have had a lot of training" [Nick Johnson]: "Oh, it was my life!" (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Thank you. Do you have any other copies of the book? [Nick Johnson]: "Up at dawn, in bead after midnight, it was tough to train and keep up with my studies." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "They were unique as far as I know." [William Hollis]: "what did you do in the summer?" [Nick Johnson]: "but the feeling it gives me, to create a thing of such beauty..." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Did the dealer have all of the copies? Nick Johnson looks longingly out the window (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Yes." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Were there any personal notes or anything like that with the books that you kept? [Nick Johnson]: "I was great once" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "No, Miss Carlyle never examined them closely." Nick Johnson sighs again [Keeper]: "Until the accident that ended my snow angel days forever..." [Keeper]: Wait, wrong thing again (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Please let me know if you are able to recover the books. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Very well." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Thank you." Hangs up. [Early Hutz]: [Early Hutz]: "Damnit! While you girls were going on about snow angels, I found out that Grey gave the dealer *all* of the books. [Nick Johnson]: "Well, that hurts the cause a little bit" [Nick Johnson]: "Was there anything else in the safe besides the books?" [Early Hutz]: "He said he didn't know of anything else." Nick Johnson sits in deep though, pondering not snow angels but safes [Nick Johnson]: "We'll have to take his word for it." [Early Hutz]: "I'm going to call my cousin and arrange a meetin place. I don't want to meet at his home." Nick Johnson nods (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Do we need the details, or can we assume I made the arrangements? (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): Let's just say he'll come by your place later [Early Hutz]: "He's going to stop by here later." [Nick Johnson]: "Ok" [Keeper]: Unless anyone has anything to do in the mean time: [Keeper]: Later... [Keeper]: There's a knock on Early's door. Early Hutz looks through peephole. [Keeper]: Why it's your cousin Farley! Early Hutz opens door. "Farley! Good to see you!" [Keeper]: Farley looks just like Early, only more respectable [Early Hutz]: ooc - everyone looks more respectable than me [Nick Johnson]: "Farley, nice to meet you." [Nick Johnson]: oocd - true [Keeper]: "It's great to see you again. I've brought what you asked for." [Early Hutz]: "Farley, these are my co-workers Nick Johnson and William Hollis." [William Hollis]: "hello Farley, nice to meet you" [Early Hutz]: "Thanks, can I get you a drink?" [Keeper]: "It's great to meet you both." [Keeper]: "Nothing for me. Those roads are too slippery tonight." [Early Hutz]: "I see. Did you take a look at these at all? Will us non-doctor types be able to read it?" [Keeper]: "I've got to get in on the scam this Huston guy was running." [Nick Johnson]: "Scam?" [Keeper]: "Do you know how much he charged for an office visit?" [Early Hutz]: "What was going on?" Nick Johnson shrugs [Keeper]: "Ninty buck!" Nick Johnson gasps [Keeper]: "That's for just an hour!" [Nick Johnson]: "He must be a superb doctor" [Early Hutz]: "Holy crap! I guess that's why he had Richard Carlyle as a patient and not Early Hutz." [Keeper]: "This psychology stuff seems to be where the money's going." [Keeper]: Here I am giving out pills at fifty cents a shot and this guy's raking in the dough [Early Hutz]: "Maybe you should branch out." [Keeper]: "Maybe I will. Anyways, here's the files you wanted." [Early Hutz]: "Thanks." [Keeper]: "I noticed they got skimpier as they went along. That's really unusual for doctor's notes." [Nick Johnson]: "How so?" [Early Hutz]: "Anything unusual? Other than the prices?" [Early Hutz]: "About the content, that is." [Keeper]: "Usually you have to refer back to the patient's history and keep building on that. In this case it was almost like he was covering it up more and more..." [Early Hutz]: "How weird." [Keeper]: "Anyways, I've got to get home. Come by some time, Early, Susan and the kids would love to see you again." [Early Hutz]: Thanks for your help. Drive safely. [Keeper]: Farley leaves, shutting the door behind him. Early Hutz locks the door. [Early Hutz]: "Let's get reading, gentlemen." [Early Hutz]: ooc - bathroom break? [Removed break chatter] [Keeper]: Okey-dokey [Keeper]: The notes explain that Carlyle went to see Huston regarding a reoccuring dream. [Keeper]: While the notes become more obsure, it's obvious that Huston introduced Carlyle to Sir Aubrey Penhew and set the expedition in motion [Keeper]: There is mention of Carlyle seeing a woman that the society pages never mentioned [Keeper]: Someone by the name of M'Weru, who Carlyle also refers to as "My Priestess" [Nick Johnson]: Name sounds like it could be African, surprise surprise [Early Hutz]: Should we try to find her, or would that only lead to more troubles. [Nick Johnson]: Don't know yet. [Keeper]: A note that consists of Carlyle's dream is on the work bench [Early Hutz]: Anything else in the notes? [Early Hutz]: Disregard that last question ;-) [Keeper]: That's it for the notes, though [Nick Johnson]: Asymmetrical pyramid? [Nick Johnson]: Like one loooooong slanted side? [Keeper]: Pyramids normally have four even sides... [Keeper]: This one would have the point off center [Nick Johnson]: I grok [Keeper]: So, what are you guys going to do. [Nick Johnson]: I think contacting her might be a good idea. [William Hollis]: "i agree" [Early Hutz]: "I agree as well, but I'm bringing my gun." [William Hollis]: "i think we should also look up and see if there is any info on a pyramid of that type" [Keeper]: And how are you going about that? [Nick Johnson]: "right. I want to do a background check on M'Weru. Perhaps Mr Grey would provide us some information on her?" [Early Hutz]: "It's possible, but I don't completely trust Mr. Grey." [Nick Johnson]: "I don't doubt that Erica has her own motives, but for now they might be a good information source. Or they might not help at all." [William Hollis]: "i'm going to head over to the library" [Nick Johnson]: "To check on the triangle?" [Nick Johnson]: William Hollis nods Early Hutz looks at his watch. [Nick Johnson]: "Where else can we get info on M'Weru?" [Keeper]: 5pm [William Hollis]: "where shall i meet you guys?" [Early Hutz]: "Do we feel safe going back to the office?" [William Hollis]: "i think the office would be safe" [Early Hutz]: "Let's meet there, then." [Early Hutz]: "But when should we meet? tonight? tomorrow morning?" [William Hollis]: "okay, i'll meet you back there in three hours" [Nick Johnson]: "8pm it is, then." William Hollis nods William Hollis heads off to the library [Keeper]: William, roll for your library search. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i'm also going to see if i can find any info on M'weru, in newspapers or whatever (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Roll twice then DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=33 = [ 33 ] DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=84 = [ 84 ] (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Okay, there's a structure call the Bent Pyramid of Dhashure that fits the description. You can check the book on egypt where you found the image out of the library (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): No info on M'weru [Keeper]: Early? [Keeper]: Nick? [Early Hutz]: Yes [Nick Johnson]: Yes [Keeper]: I thought you were doing something [Nick Johnson]: So did I :) (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): okay, i'll check the book out and take it with [Nick Johnson]: "Do you want to call Mr Grey or not?" [Early Hutz]: "I suppose I'll give him a call." Early Hutz calls Mr. Grey. [Nick Johnson]: "I'll try to think of some other people we could call" [Keeper]: "Yes? Make it short. I was just about to leave the office." [Early Hutz]: "Sorry to harrass you, but do you know a Miss M'Weru?" [Early Hutz]: "I believe she associated with Richard, and I think she might have some valuable information." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I thought I would never hear that name again." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I see it rings a bell." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "She was a negro woman that Roger was seeing for some time" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): ""She met him here in New York and Roger became quite obsessed with her." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "What was their relationship, if I may ask." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "He would vanish for days at a time with her." William Hollis heads back to the office once he is done with his research (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "He would follow her anywhere. It took some effort to keep the scandle out of the papers." (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "She accompanied the expedition and was with them when they were massacred." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Was she involved in any . . . for lack of a better term . . . cult activities?" (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I don't believe she used voodoo if that's what you mean." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Was she among the massacred, or did she manage to escape?" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): William, you find that you're locked out. A new door and lock have been installed. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "I thought we went over this. No one escaped the massacre." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i knock on the door (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "Except for Mr. Brady." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): There's no one in the office. It's nearly seven thirty at night after all. (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): I've yet to see anything that tells me Brady is alive (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): any cafe's or anything still open around the office? (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): There's the bar at the corner (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Mr. Jackson was a scrupulous researcher. If he said (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): Brady was alive, I believe it. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i'll head over there until the meeting time (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): (Keeper whispered to Early Hutz): "Then that is your choice. However there is nothing to me that says he is alive." (Early Hutz whispered to Keeper): "I see. Again, please let me know if you find out anything about those books." He thinks they were an item, but that she died in the massacre." [Nick Johnson]: Well, I can't think of any other way to get info on Her. Is she some sort of doctor or mystic? (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): i'll also take a look in the street to see if anyone is watching the offic [Early Hutz]: "M'Weru didn't think so." [Early Hutz]: "I mean Grey didn't think so." [Nick Johnson]: "So its a dead end, for now" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Okay, roll for that [Early Hutz]: "For now." [Nick Johnson]: "The dream is certainly disturbing" DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=6 = [ 6 ] (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): You don't see anyone watching the office [Nick Johnson]: "We'll have to see what William turned up" [Early Hutz]: "Should we head over to the office, or do you have any other leads?" [Nick Johnson]: "No, I have none, lets head to the office" Early Hutz goes to office. [Nick Johnson]: "I think it could be trouble getting more info on M'Weru, but clearly she had some sort of job" [Nick Johnson]: "I wonder what it was." Nick Johnson drives to the office (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): hmm....i forgot....i'm going to try and pick the office lock :P [Keeper]: You arrive a few minutes early and discover that the door has been replaced and new locks fitted onto it [Keeper]: You don't have a key to the new ones yet [Early Hutz]: "Crap! I hope my key still works!" [Nick Johnson]: "Excellent craftsmanship" Nick Johnson sighs [Early Hutz]: "Well, let's wait for William." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): You meet them when you go back. You can decide whether to pick it then Nick Johnson nods William Hollis heads back to the office "hey guys, turn up anything?" [Early Hutz]: "Only dead ends. Grey thinks M'Weru died in the expedition." [William Hollis]: "hmm....well that's another lead gone then..." [Nick Johnson]: "Did he happen to mention if she was of African descent?" [Early Hutz]: "What did you find?" [William Hollis]: "i noticed they put a new door on the office, want to see if i can get in?" [Early Hutz]: "He said she was a negro woman, but that's it." [Early Hutz]: "Give it a shot." DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=75 = [ 75 ] [Keeper]: The lock's too complex for you to pick [William Hollis]: "it's a bit too complex, i think we should go somewhere else" Nick Johnson nods [William Hollis]: "i'll show you what i found when we are there....how about Early's home again? [Early Hutz]: "We can go back to my place, if you guys promise to stop snooping around." [Nick Johnson]: "Early's it is!" William Hollis crossing fingers behind his back "i promise" Nick Johnson makes no garuntees you understand [Nick Johnson]: "I'll try though." Nick Johnson drives the gang back to Early's [Keeper]: You arrive soon enough and the weather is rapidly turning into a blizzard [Nick Johnson]: "Uh oh, perhaps we should stock up on food." [Keeper]: The city's going to be snowed in for a few days at least [Nick Johnson]: "If its not too late" William Hollis is glad he took those saltines [Early Hutz]: "Don't worry. I've got some crackers." [Nick Johnson]: "So William, what did you find?" [William Hollis]: "i found this book that has a pyramid in it like the one in his dream" William Hollis takes out the book and gives it to Nick Nick Johnson looks through the book [Nick Johnson]: to the pyramid section, naturally [Keeper]: The location is called the Bent Pyramid of Dhashur [William Hollis]: in what country? [Keeper]: The point of it lies off center which Egyptologists believe was caused by inferior building materials being used in one section [Nick Johnson]: "That's odd, I would think something like that would be done on purpose." [William Hollis]: does the book say anything else interesting about the pyramid....what it was for? [William Hollis]: or who it was for rather.... [Keeper]: It was believed to be built by Sneferu, first phaoroh of the fourth dynasty [Keeper]: He build three structures, all of which are unique. [Keeper]: The Bent Pyramid has a companion called the "Red Pyramid" because it used a pink limestone rather than white for it's outter stones [Keeper]: Another nearby structure is called the collapsed pyramid and it is believed that it was never finished before it fell apart. [Keeper]: So, what's your plans guys? Nick Johnson ponders [Keeper]: As far as the keeper sees it, you've got two avenues open to you at this point William Hollis thinks Early Hutz contemplates [Keeper]: Unless I left more open that you can think of [Keeper]: You've got the cult in New York to follow up on. [Nick Johnson]: Silas, we've missed you. [Keeper]: Or, you can start backtracking Elias and/or the expedition [Nick Johnson]: I figured that might be inevitable. [Nick Johnson]: [Nick Johnson]: I also think Simon would go for the backtracking... [William Hollis]: yep, but we aren't going anywhere in the blizzard [Nick Johnson]: What a story it would make for the magazine. Nick Johnson nods [Keeper]: You've got time to think now. :) [Early Hutz]: "I think we should probably wait out the storm. Bernard may be back in circulation by the time it's over." [Nick Johnson]: Both present issues, though. [Nick Johnson]: Backtracking is certainly going to be like fumblind our way through the dark. If we do, we can wire England and have a copy of the itinerary waiting in Cairo [Nick Johnson]: The cult might turn up alot of information but. . . [William Hollis]: "i think that is probably the best idea, but not the safest" [Nick Johnson]: I don't think they like us :) [Early Hutz]: Silas and I go way back. [Nick Johnson]: I guess our point of attack would be the Importer's? [Nick Johnson]: They have to be stashing the books somewhere. [William Hollis]: "okay, you lure them out and i'll go in and look for the books" [Nick Johnson]: But even with Bernard, we are only 4 men [Nick Johnson]: :P [Nick Johnson]: What was the symbol on people's forehead again? [Keeper]: Something like ("=") [Keeper]: in ASCII :) [Nick Johnson]: What did we decide that meant? [Keeper]: The cult of the bloody tongue [Early Hutz]: Equals :P [Nick Johnson]: I would love to talk to Silas, but I don't think he would be willing. [Nick Johnson]: To say the least :) [Early Hutz]: "It sounds like we want to wait out the snow, bring Bernard up to speed, and then see what information we can find at the importer's" [Nick Johnson]: Ok. [Nick Johnson]: To tell you the truth, I am still unclear on the Cult's motives. William Hollis nods [Early Hutz]: "I think we all are." [Nick Johnson]: I think they want to keep people from discovering something, but not necessarily something about the Expidition. [Nick Johnson]: Perhaps, whatever it is, is something they wanted to keep the Expidition from as well, though. [William Hollis]: or maybe some people from the expedition were in on it [Nick Johnson]: That's a possibility. Anyway, I think your right, we should wait for Bernard. [Early Hutz]: ooc - does that pretty much wrap things up for this week? [Keeper]: I believe so [Nick Johnson]: ooc I'd assume so [William Hollis]: and i didn't lose any sanity this time yay! [Early Hutz]: I'll need some critical success rolls next week to make up for this week Nick Johnson curses [Keeper]: You guys never even went in the dangerous directions. [Nick Johnson]: I suspected that. [Keeper]: Unfortunately, that means they're waiting out there for you [William Hollis]: i think we were trying to avoid that [Early Hutz]: We played it pretty safe this week. [Nick Johnson]: I was scared William was going to find that guy in the Alley and never come back :) [Keeper]: Lurking at the edge of reality, just waiting for your characters to stumble into it [William Hollis]: i was thinking of chasing him into the subway [Nick Johnson]: We are just a *tad* cautious. [Early Hutz]: Like mystery cats! [Nick Johnson]: I was glad you didn't Nick Johnson shudders when he recalls the close encounter with the cat. [Keeper]: I got one spring loaded cat per campaign [Early Hutz]: I knew it was going to be something stupid based on my roll [Keeper]: And that was it [Nick Johnson]: :P [Early Hutz]: But, hey. I had to go with - this is role playing, after all. [Nick Johnson]: agreed. That's why I went with it too. [Keeper]: You guys are making for a great RP group, BTW [William Hollis]: thanks :) [Keeper]: Except for that one bit of trouble, no one's been going out of their way to kill anyone [Nick Johnson]: I can only assume we have kept you on our toes with our "peculiar" decision making :) [William Hollis]: i've been reading a few lovecraft stories lately....creepy stuff [Early Hutz]: I'm having fun. [Keeper]: Oh yeah [Nick Johnson]: Lovecraft is super creapy. [Keeper]: I'm sitting here going "Come on guys, call the police. I can't tie this together unless you call them..." [Early Hutz]: Lovecraft rocks. There was some interesting stuff on eBay last time I checked. [Nick Johnson]: I keep thinking of going back to the cops, but I'm scared of all the stuff we have screwed up :P [William Hollis]: well, we don't like the cops [Early Hutz]: I see. So my suspicion of the police is unfounded. [Nick Johnson]: Damn the man! [William Hollis]: down with the man! [Early Hutz]: Except Rich. If he were here, I'd call Rich. [Keeper]: Well, if you've taken a hostage that's not the best time to call them [Nick Johnson]: I've heard that.
