[Keeper]: The train is currently rumbling through London and all of you notice immediately just how dirty everything is [James Galer]: Horrid! [Keeper]: New York isn't the cleanest city on earth, but it's a national park compared to London [Keeper]: Everything is covered with a fine layer of ash turning everything in sight into a shade of grey [Roland Windemeer]: "I see the industrial revolution is in full swing here..." [Keeper]: Even the sky appears grey due to the constantly belching smokestacks that you can see out the train window [Keeper]: The other thing you notice is London is huge [Keeper]: Back in New York people ran out of room so they started building on top of eachother, but in London things just spread out [James Galer]: Like bad teeth. [Keeper]: The train begins grind to a halt at Waterloo station. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You see the train from Liverpool finally arrive after you've been waiting nearly half an hour [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, this is my first time in London. Do any of you know the city?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I'll be waiting at the platform with a sign. [Keeper]: People are gathering their luggage and beginning to file off the train James Galer shrugs, "A few trips with my father when I was young..nothing I can remember." [Keeper]: Early says that he's almost never been out of New York, let alone to London... [James Galer]: "Let's get off, shall we?" [Roland Windemeer]: "well, I suppose we should get going. We can always ask someone for directions. They speak some dialect of English here, I believe." [James Galer]: "Pidgin." [Roland Windemeer]: "Right" Roland Windemeer grins Roland Windemeer gets his suitcases and departs the train [James Galer]: "Well, fellows, we should pursue these leads. Hullo, where'd I leve my bag?" [Keeper]: As you exit the train you notice that someone is holding a sign that says "Exotic Oddities" Roland Windemeer approaches the man [James Galer]: male or female? [Keeper]: Male [James Galer]: "Rats." James Galer follow Roland. [Roland Windemeer]: "Hello, I'm Roland Windemeer. I'm with the Exotic Oddities group." [Alexander St. James]: Greetings, gentlemen. [James Galer]: "Ha!" [Keeper]: Early, Eric, and William have also exitted the train. William's struggling with his bag Roland Windemeer looks at James quizzically. [Alexander St. James]: I'm Alexander St. James. Simon contacted me about helping out your expedition. [James Galer]: "Oh, right. The Magazine. Thought it was just a smashing travellers group joke." [Roland Windemeer]: "Pleased to meet you." Roland Windemeer shakes Alex's hand James Galer extends a hand, "Hullo, Alex." [Keeper]: William, Eric, and Early introduce themselves [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, what do you do?" [Alexander St. James]: Is this everyone? I was told there were to be six of you. [ shipwreck joined the game ] [James Galer]: "We had a lost, I'm sorry to say." [Keeper]: Aha! I'm saved! [Roland Windemeer]: ooc Hey! little late... [William Hollis]: ah...heh...sorry... [Alexander St. James]: I am an archaeologist and occasional expedition guide. [James Galer]: "Hullo, Will!" [Alexander St. James]: Greetings, William. [William Hollis]: Hello [Keeper]: To catch things up, you've arrived, and met Alex :) [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh, fascinating. I'm an archeologist as well. I work out of Miskatonic University. Where are you?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): He's too young for you to have had him as a professor [William Hollis]: ooc- we are in london now right? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc yup (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You did meet him once or twice, though :) [Roland Windemeer]: ooc train station [William Hollis]: ok [Keeper]: Waterloo station to be really precise [Alexander St. James]: Fascinating. I studied at Miskatonic myself, though I've not been back to the States for several years. [Roland Windemeer]: ooc like we have any idea where that is,,, [Roland Windemeer]: "We must have just missed each other. I've only been teaching there for a few years." [Alexander St. James]: I think we may have run into each other once or twice. You do look somewhat familiar, although I've seen a lot of faces in my time. [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, I'm sure we can get reacquanited then. So, what do you have planned for us?" [Alexander St. James]: Well, before all other concerns, I should think you'd like to check into a hotel so you can leave your baggage somewhere. [James Galer]: "A fine idea." [Roland Windemeer]: "Do you have any reccomendations?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Make someplace up :) (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): I don't have any hotels listed on my maps :) [Alexander St. James]: As it happens, I'm staying at a place a few blocks away. (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): What's a suitably English sounding name for a hotel? [James Galer]: "Shall we, then?" [Roland Windemeer]: "well, if its good enough for you it should be good enough for us." (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Gray's Inn will work if no one calls me on the bluff [Roland Windemeer]: "Lets" Roland Windemeer prepares to leave James Galer thinks that he wants to buy a nice hat while in London. [Alexander St. James]: Excellent. Small place called Gray's Inn, just over this way. Shall we walk, or would you prefer some manner of transportation? [Roland Windemeer]: "Its only a few blocks, we can walk. We can get some vigor from this [cough cough] clean air." [James Galer]: "I think a cab might be nice for the bags here." Roland Windemeer travels light [James Galer]: "Oh, er...well, then." [William Hollis]: yes, i think a cab would be nice, unless you want to carry all the bags James.... [Roland Windemeer]: "I'm willing to go along with the rest, I suppose." [James Galer]: "Mmmm, not quite." [Keeper]: A set of bells begin tolling 11am William Hollis looks for a cab Roland Windemeer helps William [Roland Windemeer]: "May as well." [James Galer]: "Bags first, then perhaps a nibble. What do you say?" [Keeper]: You manage to get someone's attention [Keeper]: "Where to, gov? [Roland Windemeer]: "Cornwall!" [Alexander St. James]: Gray's Inn, if you would. [Roland Windemeer]: "OOps, sorry, I meant Grey's Inn." James Galer eyes Roland, "Er...no." William Hollis puts his stuff in the cab and gets in Roland Windemeer follows suit [Keeper]: Early pulls over a second cab so seven people don't have to fit into that one James Galer hands his bags to Will. James Galer smiles. [Keeper]: With all the baggage loaded, the taxis take off [William Hollis]: "got anything good in here James?" James Galer winks, "Just a few bottles, Will." [William Hollis]: "ah...yes, of course..." [Keeper]: It is a short ride, only a few miles, but it takes you across the Thames, past Parliment and Big Ben, past Westminster Abby, and through Trafalgar Square [James Galer]: "And I took some towels off the ship. You, know, for compensation." William Hollis looks out the window of the cab [William Hollis]: "you should have taken more than that....lousy boat..." [Keeper]: Within a few minutes the taxis come to a stop in front of a rather old and unassuming looking building [Roland Windemeer]: "So, Alexander, what do you study." [James Galer]: "Our new home sweet home, eh?" [Keeper]: "Here ya go, govuner. That'll be one shilling, two pense" [Alexander St. James]: Well, I haven't spent much time studying in recent years. I do most of my work in the field. James Galer pays the driver. [Roland Windemeer]: "Anyone got some funny money for the driver herE? James Galer tips well. William Hollis gets out of the cab and studies the building [Keeper]: You had to get some money converted to get train ticket [Roland Windemeer]: ooc ah Roland Windemeer pays his share [James Galer]: "No need, Roland. My pleasure." Roland Windemeer says to Alex, "So, where has your field work been situated?" [James Galer]: "I wasn't much help on the ship back there, eh?" [Keeper]: Gray's Inn is an inn with the classic English style that's dying out [Alexander St. James]: Oh, all over the place. My last expedition was in Greece, actually. [Keeper]: There's a tavern on the right as you go in where people are busy getting lunch [James Galer]: "Hullo! A nibble and a pint." [Roland Windemeer]: "Lets arrange for some rooms and then we can sit down for lunch." [Alexander St. James]: Well, let's get you gentlemen some rooms, then we can discuss things over lunch. [Keeper]: And to the left is a small desk where a bored looking man is almost napping [James Galer]: "What's say we freshen up and meet back here in a bit, gents?" Roland Windemeer gets a room for himself and sets up his belongings William Hollis finds his room and stores his stuff James Galer does the same. [Keeper]: The rooms are very modest; small things with low ceilings. Roland Windemeer makes his way down to the tavern and looks at the menu [Keeper]: The furnature appears to be particularly old antiques made of solid, but unadorned oak [Keeper]: Menu? [Alexander St. James]: Not exactly luxury accomadations, I know, but it's easier on the pocketbook. [Roland Windemeer]: ooc they have food, right? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Actually, staying in place this old would probably be fairly expensive (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): ;) [Keeper]: Yes, there's food but no menu [Keeper]: You get what they're cooking (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Ah. I was assuming it was a rather small and inexpensive place. [Keeper]: It's kidney pie that they're serving today Roland Windemeer is afraid he'll get bad chicken again. William Hollis goes through his belongings to make sure there is nothing missing and heads for the tavern (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Well, it is small and not really that expensive, but inns like that just don't exist any more (even in the 1920's) Roland Windemeer waits for the others to arrive Alexander St. James sits down with the others James Galer washes up, then goes to meet the others. William Hollis orders a drink and sits with the others [Keeper]: The tavern is dimly lit and smoky. The clientel is a rather odd mix of businessmen and artistic types (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): If they ask, the place is right on the border between Soho and the financial districts [Keeper]: The only drink they have is guiness stout [Alexander St. James]: You really must tell me about your voyage. Your ship was expected in some time ago. Alexander St. James orders a kidney pie and a mug of ale [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, there were the gray men, the fish monsters, and worst of all, Charles Fort." James Galer orders roast beef and a bitter. [Roland Windemeer]: //he orders food [Keeper]: The barkeep mutters about Americans always wanting things their way [William Hollis]: i wonder if charles fort is in town....i think he said he was chasing some monster around here.... [Keeper]: "We got kidney pie today and that's it. We don't have none of your bloody "menus". You want some or not?" [James Galer]: "Cripes. Fine." [William Hollis]: "maybe we should go somewhere with a better selection...." [Keeper]: Roland and James are already getting their food William Hollis looks at the food to see if it looks any good [Alexander St. James]: This is England, my friend. Very few American-style restaraunts. [Keeper]: Besides, what's the point in travelling to England if you don't sample the English cusine? Roland Windemeer mutters "savages..." [James Galer]: "Barbarians!" Keeper snickers evilly [William Hollis]: "cusine? i'm not so sure that is the right term for it..." [Alexander St. James]: Fear not. You'll get used to it in a few months. [James Galer]: "At least the beer is good." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, do we have a plan for while we are in England?" [James Galer]: "Yes, what is the plan, Alex?" [Keeper]: Early asks Alex if he's had any dealings with the Penhew Foundation... [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh, while I'm thinking about it, can you tell me where I can find Cornwall?" [Alexander St. James]: Well, I was simply asked to help you with your expedition. Simon wasn't able to tell me much about its goals, as oversea telagrams are notoriously expensive. [James Galer]: "Ah, Early's up on things, I see." [Alexander St. James]: Ah yes, I've dealt with them before, I think. [Roland Windemeer]: "How do you know Simon?" [Alexander St. James]: Served as field guide on an expedition in Egypt, I believe (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Take your pick; he's your uncle, you saved his life in Africa, something [Alexander St. James]: Oh, I've known Simon for some years. I occasionally pass him tales of some of the stranger things I've seen. [Roland Windemeer]: "Interesting. So you're familiar with Egypt? That should be helpful." [Roland Windemeer]: "We plan on going there eventually." Roland Windemeer smacks the table. [Keeper]: Early just can't seem to be able to finish his kidney pie and so stops trying. "So, where should we start?" [Alexander St. James]: Ah, land of the Pharaohs. Seems travel there has become less popular since that rich boy's expedition was attacked. James Galer shows Will a picture of his sister, Pernilla. William Hollis looks at the picture [Roland Windemeer]: "Actually, we're interested in trying to find the remnants of the Carlyle expedition [James Galer]: "What do you say [Alexander St. James]: You don't say. Weren't they all killed, though? [James Galer]: Will...She's a nice country girl." [William Hollis]: "i don [William Hollis]: "i don't know what to say" [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, that is what the press says. We beleive otherwise." William Hollis looks around the tavern at the other patrons James Galer raises his eyebrows at Roland, surprised. [Roland Windemeer]: ooc why did we believe otherwise? Anyone remember? (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): There's a mix of grubby looking youths with middle aged businessmen, but nothing particularly odd about any of them [William Hollis]: because some members were reported seen alive later? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc didn't we meet the security guard or something? [James Galer]: "I'm out of my element, friend. Strictly a Times man." [Keeper]: Elias's papers might have had something to do with that [Roland Windemeer]: "We've had reports of some members of the expedition being seen again. Remember, much of the party wasn't accounted for, including Carlyle and Penhew." [Roland Windemeer]: "They were only assumed daed." [Roland Windemeer]: "Alexander, do you have any ability with ancient languages?" [Alexander St. James]: Hmm. But that was some time ago. Where would they have been since then? [ driver left the game ] [Roland Windemeer]: "Who knows... We want to find out." [Alexander St. James]: Well, some Latin, but languages were never really my game. [Keeper]: That was odd... [Keeper]: Hopefully Driver just lost connection and will jump back on in a moment [William Hollis]: man overboard [William Hollis]: [Keeper]: Well, continue plotting. We just won't take any action until he's back [William Hollis]: "Alexander, would you happen to know anything about egyptian cults?" [Roland Windemeer]: "do you have any contacts here who specialize in ancient tongues? I have a manuscript I need translated." (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You might know historical legends, but nothing current [Alexander St. James]: Well, I know a few translators, as one must for an expedition. May I see this manuscript, also? [Alexander St. James]: As for cults, I know of the historical Egyptian religions, but that's considerably before our time. [Roland Windemeer]: "Certainly. After we finish lunch I'd be glad to let you see it." William Hollis nods [Alexander St. James]: Do you know what language it's in? [Roland Windemeer]: "It has something to do with Cornwall. We met these odd fellows on the boat who had a tablet with them. I managed to make a copy. But I don't recognize it." [Roland Windemeer]: "They were headed for Cornwall, up to no good, certainly. I want to find out what they were up to." [Alexander St. James]: Ah yes, you'll have to tell me more about your voyage. What was that about a sea monster? [Roland Windemeer]: "I should defer to the others. I didn't see them close up." William Hollis tells Alexander about the monsters and tries to describe them [Roland Windemeer]: ooc they were some kind of grey blob [Keeper]: They did have form [Roland Windemeer]: ooc when he tried to draw them last time he just got a blob [Alexander St. James]: I see. I rather think you're pulling my leg, but I've certainly seen some strange things in my time. [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, we believe that these creatures managed to damage the ship and cause our delay." [Roland Windemeer]: "The captain couldn't confirm it, but we are relatively sure." [William Hollis]: "i am sure of that" [Keeper]: Guys, it doesn't look like Driver's coming back for at least a little while [Alexander St. James]: Hmm. Any idea why a sea monster would attack your vessel? I would think a modern ship is too large to make an easy snack. [Roland Windemeer]: "We believe they were after the men I mentioned, the ones with the inscription." [Roland Windemeer]: "They disappeared during the largest attack on the boat." [Alexander St. James]: And do you believe this is somehow connected with the Carlyle expedition? [Keeper]: His ISP's having problems (I just pinged him and it's not getting all the way through...) [Alexander St. James]: ooc Hmm. Never a good sign. [Roland Windemeer]: "Not as yet. Strange things seem to surround us for some reason. Its almost like we're in the center of all the world's mystical activity. Of course, there's nothing special about us. Just some men interested in finding the truth." [William Hollis]: "There were also some cult members on the ship that tried to kill me" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Hey I'm back (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Gain one, lose another :) [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh right. I almost forgot about that. You made it out all right, though." [Alexander St. James]: Ah, so you had good reason for asking me about Egyptian cults, then. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Driver's gone I can see (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): His ISP apparently went down (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): are we playing right now? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Yes (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): I don't want to interrupt (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Exposition information [Roland Windemeer]: "And then there are the cultists with the upside down anhks. We're not sure who they are but they're certainly involved." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): You've gone to an inn (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ah anything else? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): and are now having lunch with Alex explaining everything and are planning (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ah ok William Hollis looks around the tavern again (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): so we are eating [Keeper]: It's starting to thin out [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, maybe we should finish up here and get to work." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Yes, kindey pie only (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): you're having to suffer English food [Alexander St. James]: Well, if you gentlemen are finished with your kidney pies, perhaps we should depart. [Alexander St. James]: We'll see about finding a translator for that manuscript of yours. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): I'll try and read back then I'll chime in [Keeper]: Early: "Which lead should we follow first then." [Roland Windemeer]: "I need to show Alexander the inscription I copied. After that I would like to investigate what I can in Cornwall." (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Please explain to him the problem in character :) [Roland Windemeer]: "Lets retire to my room and take another look at the manuscript." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): oh shoot I forgot it doesn't keep the whole thing, there's only a limited amount of text the program holds (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): d'oh (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): I'll just read what I can [Alexander St. James]: Cornwall's a fairly big region. You'll have to be somewhat more specific. Roland Windemeer finished his lunch and gets up. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Don't worry, it's just chat (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): oh ok, thanks William Hollis finishes his drink and stands up (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I would assume I have one or two translators I can contact, but are any of them currently in town? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Certainly, you have a few contacts at the British Museum after all :) [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, all they seemed to know was that they were headed to Cornwall, so that is all the information we have." Alexander St. James summons the barkeep over to settle the bill Roland Windemeer leads everyone to his room. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Dear god, the British Museum is almost across the street from the Inn... (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): If they want to go there, it's very close (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Hmm. Did you intend this, or just now glance at the map? :) Roland Windemeer takes out his copy of the manuscript and shows it to Alex (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): I looked on the map to find where the museum was [Roland Windemeer]: "Can you make anything of this?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): BTW, you can't even ID the language that it has. It appears almost oriental in style; like a pictographic language, but it's none that you're aware of [Alexander St. James]: Hmm. I don't recognize the language. Possibly some Egyptian variant, but that's merely a wild guess. [Alexander St. James]: I know a good translator at the museum. I think we should probably ask him to take a look. [ bcr19374 joined the game ] [ bcr19374 left the game ] [Keeper]: What happened? [bcr19374]: I got kicked out somehow [Keeper]: I think everyone did [Keeper]: Maybe the glitch is my end... [Keeper]: I'm still seeing everyone, though [Alexander St. James]: I wondered what was happening there. [Roland Windemeer]: oh [Keeper]: BreakMan, you still here? [Roland Windemeer]: I was wondering why no one was saying anything [Keeper]: (He got back a few minutes ago and has been catching up) [William Hollis]: i'm still here...computers been acting up though... [Keeper]: Shoot [Roland Windemeer]: roll call, who's here [Keeper]: Okay, on the off chance it's me [Keeper]: I'm going to shut down the game, reboot my computer, and bring it back up [Keeper]: I shouldn't be more than five minutes [Roland Windemeer]: I guess breakman is not here. he might be afk though [Keeper]: He could be [Roland Windemeer]: alright. [Keeper]: I just want to avoid problems [Alexander St. James]: Ok [Roland Windemeer]: can we make a beep or something [Keeper]: We left off with the museum suggestions [Keeper]: I'll toss an e-mail, but just check again in a minute or two guys [Alexander St. James]: Will do [Sat Sep 02 13:26:54 PDT 2000] [ BreakMan joined the game ] [Eric Macaulay]: that was interesting [Keeper]: Were you getting the last messages? [Eric Macaulay]: I was off doing something and when I came back my sister told me this quit so I had to read the chat log [Keeper]: You didn't respond so I wasn't sure [Eric Macaulay]: well I wasn't around but they were in the chat log [Keeper]: Okay [Keeper]: Everyone else will be along in a minute or two [Eric Macaulay]: yeah ok [Eric Macaulay]: do we expect driver to be back? [ Nameless joined the game ] [Keeper]: I don't know [ bcr19374 joined the game ] [bcr19374]: hey [Keeper]: Hopefully he'll come back with this, but who knows? [Eric Macaulay]: yeah, Hi [ shipwreck joined the game ] [Keeper]: There we go [Alexander St. James]: Wonder what the problem was. [Keeper]: Hopefully that fixed it, but if it's something with, say, the WebRPG servers... [Roland Windemeer]: I wonder if driver is going to show up again... [Eric Macaulay]: I'm sure he'll keep trying if it was his ISP that cut out on him [Keeper]: Okay guys, Alex just suggested getting the document translated at "the museum". [Roland Windemeer]: "Okay, I will accompany Alexander. Do the rest of you wish to come along or follow other leads? There's always Cornwall." [William Hollis]: "i think that's a good idea....Alexander, do you know anyone that knows about cults that i could talk with?" [Alexander St. James]: Well, you could probably discuss them with someone at the Anthropology department, if they're not busy. [William Hollis]: "okay, i'll go do that..." [Roland Windemeer]: "William..." [Eric Macaulay]: "I'll tag along with William, if that's alright..." [Alexander St. James]: Why don't we walk over there now? It's practically across the street. Roland Windemeer gives William a copy of the pentagram and the manuscript. [Eric Macaulay]: ooc which manuscript? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc the tablet one [Eric Macaulay]: ooc right, I remember [Roland Windemeer]: "Well in that case I can just use this copy." [Keeper]: Early's heading with William; James is heading with Roland [Eric Macaulay]: "I'm with William" [Keeper]: Okay, so everyone knows where they're headed to? [William Hollis]: "okay shall we head out?" [Roland Windemeer]: "So Alex and I are going to the museum while the rest go to the university?" [Keeper]: It's all part of the museum [Roland Windemeer]: oh [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, lets be off then [Roland Windemeer]: ooc since we're all going to the same place. [Alexander St. James]: Very well. He'll no doubt be in his office at this hour. [Keeper]: You leave the tavern, turn the corner and less than half a block away is an incredible marble building with tall pillars [Keeper]: It's set well away from the street, but a very lengthy set of steps lead up to the door Roland Windemeer mounts the steps Roland Windemeer goes in [Keeper]: Roland, you notice a sign that they're exhibitting the treasures of King Tutenkamen (sorry for mangling the spelling) Eric Macaulay walks up the steps and is alittle out of breath [Keeper]: that were recently found in Egypt William Hollis enters the museum and takes a look around Alexander St. James gives the others directions to the Anthropology department [Roland Windemeer]: "Fascinating. I had forgotten King Tut's treasures were being exhibited here." Eric Macaulay follows Alexander's directions [Roland Windemeer]: "I will have to examine that exhibit before I leave." [Keeper]: Inside the museum is an incredibly large hall; a rather small in comparison desk sits blocking access to what must be the exhibits with a woman in a uniform sitting behind it [Eric Macaulay]: ooc are we all together still? [William Hollis]: "so when do you want to meet back here?" [Keeper]: For a little ways longer, you both have to head downstairs away from the exhibits to the offices [Roland Windemeer]: "We should be able to conclude our busness in an hour, I would guess." [William Hollis]: "okay, sounds good" Eric Macaulay nods William Hollis heads for the anthropology department, following alexanders directions [Alexander St. James]: Depending on whether or not Richard is able to recognize the language. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): It doesn't take you long to get lost (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): It doesn't take you long to get lost [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, Alexander, lead the way." [Alexander St. James]: Right this way, then. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): The lower levels are a maze of tiny passages (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The lower levels are a maze of tiny passages [William Hollis]: ooc lol Roland Windemeer follows alex (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Since Alex has been here before he swiftly guides you through the maze of passages to Egyptology department where his friend works (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Since Alex has been here before he swiftly guides you through the maze of passages to Egyptology department where his friend works [Eric Macaulay]: ooc yeah I know heh heh : ) (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "It's a mess down here" William Hollis nods to Eric (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "We were supposed to go left...right? I mean right? No correct? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Occasionally you're passed by an academic type with a book in hand (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Occasionally you're passed by an academic type with a book in hand (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): stops the next person (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): /he introduces himself (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Yes? What is it?" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Yes? What is it?" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Excuse me can you point us towards the anthropology department?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "Alex, I'm glad to see you! Where's the two pounds you owe me?" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): "Alex, I'm glad to see you! Where's the two pounds you owe me?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): :greets his old friend Richard and is quite sure that he paid back the two pound some time ago. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Oh dear, you're on the wrong side of the building for that. Turn around, take the first left, follow taht to the end, then turn right and keep going for a ways until you pass the watercooler, then left then the first right, then through the door... (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Oh dear, you're on the wrong side of the building for that. Turn around, take the first left, follow taht to the end, then turn right and keep going for a ways until you pass the watercooler, then left then the first right, then through the door... (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "thank you very much" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc heh... (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): groans (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): In any case, I have a problem that's right up your alley. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Uh can we follow that? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Pleased to meet you. I was hoping you could examine a manuscript I found." (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "Really, like what?" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): "Really, like what?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "Why not? These carvings are getting incredibly dull..." (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): "Why not? These carvings are getting incredibly dull..." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): /he tries to follow those directions (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): ic: I show him the copy. "Can you make anything of this?" (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): When you follow her directions and open that door you find a tiny office with an elderly gentleman (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): When you follow her directions and open that door you find a tiny office with an elderly gentleman (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): eric wishes there were signs (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Hmm... It's nothing that I've ever seen before. (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Hmm... It's nothing that I've ever seen before. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Excuse me is this the anthropology department? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): It's definitely not egyptian in style or form (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): It's definitely not egyptian in style or form (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc-dammit, i type too slow :P (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Maybe it could be some early Summerian pictographs... (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Maybe it could be some early Summerian pictographs... (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "I really can't say I'm surprised. I know Egyptian writing quite well and it is not familiar to me." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): I'm afraid not. We deal with greek antiquities. You want to go out, turn right, take the third left, then the fifth door on the right (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): I'm afraid not. We deal with greek antiquities. You want to go out, turn right, take the third left, then the fifth door on the right (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Is it possible that it is related to the druids? I believe it may have originated in ancient England." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): groans again, this is getting us no where (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): No, the druids had no written language (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): No, the druids had no written language (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "Is there anyone that can take us there...we keep getting lost" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): keeper, you have no intention of us getting to the right department do you (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Sure I do, but you guys chose to wander off in the British equivillent of the Smithsonian (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Sure I do, but you guys chose to wander off in the British equivillent of the Smithsonian (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): The place isn't just huge, it's freaking huge (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The place isn't just huge, it's freaking huge (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, that's not my area of expertise. Perhaps its a celtic derivation?" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): well i thought alexanders directions would be good enough.... (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Remember that if you go to London; don't wander around in the basement of the British museum (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Remember that if you go to London; don't wander around in the basement of the British museum (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): we'll keep that in mind....next time (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): I'm almost positive that celtic languages were purely spoken (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): I'm almost positive that celtic languages were purely spoken (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Roll, both of you (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Roll, both of you (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): tries to follow the other man's directions DICE for Eric Macaulay: (1d100) : 1d100=42 = [ 42 ] DICE for William Hollis: (1d100) : 1d100=1 = [ 1 ] (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Curses! (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Curses! (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): lol (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): : ) (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Well, when you open the door, it leads to a small suite of offices (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Well, when you open the door, it leads to a small suite of offices (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "I must apologize for my ignorance. Do you have any idea who else might be able to translate this?" [Roland Windemeer]: ooc sorry william, for whatever happened... [William Hollis]: no prob, i rolled a 1 :) (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Can you be sure that it is in fact a language, and not, for instance, a series of ritual pictograms that happen to look something like writing? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): ooc Oops, I forgot low rolls are good. In that case, congratualtions! (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Is this the anthropology department? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc Oops, I forgot low rolls are good. In that case, congratualtions! (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): It could be... It's nearly impossible to be certain (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): It could be... It's nearly impossible to be certain (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): ooc argh... that wasn't supposed to be a whisper (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): I'd bet on it being a truly early language, though. Take it by our linguistics department, they might be able to decide (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): I'd bet on it being a truly early language, though. Take it by our linguistics department, they might be able to decide (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc oh wait there isn't anyone there, lol [William Hollis]: ooc-too bad it was just a roll to find the dang anthro dept :P [Eric Macaulay]: Hey don't knock it, I found it at least! (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Yes it is, how could I help you? (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Yes it is, how could I help you? [Alexander St. James]: ooc Jeez. I gave you guys perfectly good directions. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Allows William to continue (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "It may be a ritual at that. Well, perhaps we will try linguistics. Thank you for your time." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): I was wondering if there is someone here i could speak with about cults [Keeper]: As I pointed out to them, they wandered off in the basement of the British equivellent of the Smithsonian. The place isn't just huge, it's freaking huge (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Yes, good seeing you again Richard. And I'll have to check on that two pounds you owe me. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Well, there is Dr. Wilton... (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Well, there is Dr. Wilton... (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Don't stiff me, remember that I helped you... (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Don't stiff me, remember that I helped you... (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "could i please speak with him?" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "ahem we..." (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, Alexander, you can lead on to linguistics." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Certainly, he has that office over there (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Certainly, he has that office over there (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "yes, sorry, could we speak with him" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric walks to the office and knocks (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Blast. That never works. Maybe I need more gullible friends. Fear not, you know I'll never let you down. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william follows Eric (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Again, since Alex has actually been here before he quickly guides you to the correct department (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Again, since Alex has actually been here before he quickly guides you to the correct department (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Yes, yes. Come in..." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Yes, yes. Come in..." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Sorry to bother you, are you Dr. Wilton? (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I certainly hope the others don't get lost. This place can be like a maze. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): The office is extremely disorganized with books piled in stacks feet high. The voice belongs to a man who appears to be in his late fourties, early fifties wearing rumpled clothing (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The office is extremely disorganized with books piled in stacks feet high. The voice belongs to a man who appears to be in his late fourties, early fifties wearing rumpled clothing [Roland Windemeer]: "Knowing them they were lost once they were out of our sight." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc thanks keeper, I was just about to look around the room and at him : ) [William Hollis]: i heard that :P Eric Macaulay grumbles to himself [Alexander St. James]: I see. Perhaps you should talk to the linguists while I organize a search party. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Yes, are you gentlemen from the press again? (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Yes, are you gentlemen from the press again? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "well, who should we ask in Lingustics?" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric looks at William...raises an eyebrow (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "no, we were wondering if you could help us identify a cult or two" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You don't know anyone in the department... [ bcr19374 left the game ] (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Good, good. I already told them I don't know anything about those things (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Good, good. I already told them I don't know anything about those things [ bcr19374 joined the game ] [Keeper]: Again? [Keeper]: It's not me then [bcr19374]: I got kicked out again (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "if you don't mind me asking....what things is the press asking about?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Let's see. One of the ancient language specialists, it would seem. I'm afraid I don't know anyone from the linguistics department very well. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Don't worry about it; those murders probably aren't a cult anyways. So, how can I help you? (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Don't worry about it; those murders probably aren't a cult anyways. So, how can I help you? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, lets ask the secretary who we should talk to." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william tells about the cult members on the ship and about the upside down ankh (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): The linguistics department is a large open room with about a dozen desks neatly lined up. Various people are looking over tablets, old books, and the like jotting down what must be translations onto sheets of paper (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): The linguistics department is a large open room with about a dozen desks neatly lined up. Various people are looking over tablets, old books, and the like jotting down what must be translations onto sheets of paper (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I would suggest speaking with the department head first. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "What was that symbol for the first one again?" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "What was that symbol for the first one again?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Certainly. Do you know who that is and where to find him?" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): bloody tongue....i think... (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc we are talking about the cult members that followed us from New york right? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Hmm..." He hands Eric a hot cup of tea he was drinking and then begins shifting through the wobbly stack of books (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Hmm..." He hands Eric a hot cup of tea he was drinking and then begins shifting through the wobbly stack of books (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): sniffs the tea (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): After a minute or two he's flipping back and forth in three that removed from the stack (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): After a minute or two he's flipping back and forth in three that removed from the stack (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): It's really strong smelling and dark (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I don't know his name, I'm afraid. Look for a man behind a big desk who doesn't appear to be doing anything. That's usually a safe bet. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "What kind of tea is this?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Okay." and I do so. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Everyone here has their heads down and hasn't noticed you come in. There's no doors off the room except the one you came in through (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Everyone here has their heads down and hasn't noticed you come in. There's no doors off the room except the one you came in through (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william looks at the tea (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Blast. One would almost think they had a department head here with a work ethic of some kind. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): eric shows william the tea (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): He doesn't appear to be listening to you at all, he's completely engrossed with searching the books. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): He doesn't appear to be listening to you at all, he's completely engrossed with searching the books. (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): Well, I'll just go up to the nearest person and ask for help. (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Let's ask around. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): eric shrugs (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The tea is so dark it's nearly black and smells very exotic (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william shrugs and takes a look around the room noticing anything that stands out (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): The man looks up from the stone tablet he was working on. "Yes, what can I do for you?" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): The man looks up from the stone tablet he was working on. "Yes, what can I do for you?" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric looks around the room for something to sit on, those stairs were killer (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): take a sip Eric, i'm sure he won't notice (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Aha! Just as I thought!" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Aha! Just as I thought!" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Hello, I was looking for someone who specializes in ancient and obscure languages. I would like to see this translated," and I show him the manuscript. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric inhales deeply at the tea. Takes a quick look around....and is interrupted by the doctor. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william turns his attention back to the dr. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): eric looks up (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): The man takes a good look at the manuscript (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): The man takes a good look at the manuscript (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "what did you find?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): His eyes widen. "Charles take a look at this!" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): His eyes widen. "Charles take a look at this!" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Ah, so this means something to you?" (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Hmm? What? Oh, yes. There's no connection between the Bloody Tongue and the Black Pharaoh. That's what I thought." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Hmm? What? Oh, yes. There's no connection between the Bloody Tongue and the Black Pharaoh. That's what I thought." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "black pharaoh?" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric grumbles a thanks (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Another person gets up from his desk and looks at the manuscript. Before long, the entire department has stopped working and is examining it. They're all chattering excitely amongst themselves (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Another person gets up from his desk and looks at the manuscript. Before long, the entire department has stopped working and is examining it. They're all chattering excitely amongst themselves (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Yes, definitely no link." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Yes, definitely no link." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "who or what is the black pharaoh?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I try to listen and pick up what I can. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Why are you asking me? You're the ones who brought him up." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Why are you asking me? You're the ones who brought him up." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Are they associated with the upside down ankh?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Mostly it's arguing about what language group it would belong in and how old it would have to be (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Mostly it's arguing about what language group it would belong in and how old it would have to be (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william gets out his notepad and takes notes (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Richard from archaeology suggested it might not be a language at all but simply pictograms from an ancient ritual." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Of course they are. That's their symbol after all. A facinating group. Shame they died out in 3000BC (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Of course they are. That's their symbol after all. A facinating group. Shame they died out in 3000BC (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Well, actually, that was just an idle thought on my part. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Can we get some basic information about them? On paper preferably" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "i'm not so sure they died out doctor..." (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Oh, sorry." (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc are we sure about that? (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc not really...but does it matter (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc didn't you guys just find the guy dressed up as a monk with that symbol because he bought it as a souvenir in Egypt? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): No books on them, I'm afraid. The period's too shrouded in mystery (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): No books on them, I'm afraid. The period's too shrouded in mystery (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Well then, any information you can give us?" (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "could you tell us what you know about the cult doctor?" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): One of them breaks off from the group and leaves the department (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): One of them breaks off from the group and leaves the department (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric takes out his notebook as well (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I'd like to grab him and ask him if he has any ideas (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc cult doctor? (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Looks like quite a linguistic treasure you came across. And you say these men were just carrying it around? (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc lol , there's your comma, happy now? (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc : ) (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): The only things we know if that they existed right at the end of the forth dynasty. The story was that the Pharoah at the time who's name has been extinguished from history was a powerful sorcerer who led the cult... (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The only things we know if that they existed right at the end of the forth dynasty. The story was that the Pharoah at the time who's name has been extinguished from history was a powerful sorcerer who led the cult... (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, carrying it around on a huge stone tablet (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): The man mentions that he needs to get a document from the library (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): The man mentions that he needs to get a document from the library (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Will it help with the translation?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): whispered to Alex: WHy don't you stay here while I follow this guy? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Hopefully. He dashes off (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Hopefully. He dashes off (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I try to follow him (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Okay, roll DICE for Roland Windemeer: (1d100) : 1d100=80 = [ 80 ] [Roland Windemeer]: crap (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Very well (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): He vanishes from sight almost immediately. If you want to try to follow him still, you can, or you can turn around right now (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Though I do worry somewhat that you might get lost in the lebrary. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Hey guys, someone else might get lost. :) (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Hey guys, someone else might get lost. :) (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I'll try to keep following him (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Roll once more (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "Doctor, would you know where to find a book called Africa's Dark Secrets?" DICE for Roland Windemeer: (1d100) : 1d100=66 = [ 66 ] (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc-lol it's about time Roland got in trouble :P (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "We have a copy of it right here!" He holds up one of the books he was looking through a minute ago (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "We have a copy of it right here!" He holds up one of the books he was looking through a minute ago (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "may i please take a look at it?" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): You're completely lost in the maze of hallways in the basement of the British museum. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Be careful with it; there's not many copies around." He hands it over. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Be careful with it; there's not many copies around." He hands it over. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "Someone has been stealing that book back in the states...do you know of any reason someone may be doing that?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): okay, I will give up and try to find my way back to the linguistics department. If I see anyone I will stop and ask for directions. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Well, it is a terribly useful book (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Well, it is a terribly useful book (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william takes the book and pages through it (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Roll again, then DICE for Roland Windemeer: (1d100) : 1d100=92 = [ 92 ] (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): With Roland having wandered off, I'll ask one of the linguists their current opinion on the manuscript. (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): You do manage to find someone to ask direction, at least. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): that's not good for Roland (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Do you know the way to linguistics? I'm afraid I've become turned around." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc-how many pages is the book? (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "I'm sure you've heard of the Carlyle expidition..." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "It's clearly a hindi varient!" "No it's not you fool!" (and so on) (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Wrong guy (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc lol (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "It's clearly a hindi varient!" "No it's not you fool, it's more like the early writings found in New Zealand!" "You're both wrong..." (and so on) (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): The book is about two hundred pages long (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The book is about two hundred pages long (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): It details a british explorers encounters with various cults in central Africa in the early 19th centure (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): It details a british explorers encounters with various cults in central Africa in the early 19th centure (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I see. I get the feeling this could take a while. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william pages through the book looking for any useful info and writing it down (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Well, keep going this way, take the third right, then an immediate left. That puts you in the main cooridore. Then take the fifth left from there and follow that hall until the end. Make another left and then it's the third door on the right." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "is there anything in this book i should pay particular attention to in referance to the cults i am looking for, doctor? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Okay, thank you very much." (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I attempt to follow the directions. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Just the section on the Bloody Tongue. Here." He grabs the book and immediately opens it to the right section. (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Just the section on the Bloody Tongue. Here." He grabs the book and immediately opens it to the right section. (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Roll DICE for Roland Windemeer: (1d100) : 1d100=62 = [ 62 ] (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): You've at least found a familiar landmark this time. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william begins reading the section, and paraphrasing what is there in his notebook (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): how much time has passed since we arrived? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Facinating group. I'd hate to encounter them, though. Terribly vicious." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Facinating group. I'd hate to encounter them, though. Terribly vicious." (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): A little more than an hour (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "yeah, i know, they are pretty vicious" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "Do you know anything about a cult that uses this symbol," takes out the symbol drawing, "for protective uses?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): Then I will try to make it back to where we agreed to meet. (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Well, whatever language it turns out to be, are you able to make any sort of translation of it? (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "And do you have any idea what this could mean?" (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Since the landmark was the steps, you can do that (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric hands the Doctor the other stuff : ) (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): Ok. I'll wait there. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): The one who went out earlier has come back with a manuscript. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "This is definitely it. Well, we can identify the language, but not translate it. We lack any kind of... Rosetta stone to help us understand it's structure." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Is Roland following him? (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): So what language is it, then? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "A surprising number of cults have used this symbol or some variation of it. Still pentegrams are almost uniquely European..." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "A surprising number of cults have used this symbol or some variation of it. Still pentegrams are almost uniquely European..." (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): No, he's not. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "No idea. We can't even pin down the language group. We appreciate your donation of this, though. It might help us be able to crack it!" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Bloody hell. Probably got lost somewhere. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "about that black pharaoh....what was the purpose of the cult, did they have any particular agenda?" (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): It's been nearly an hour and a half since you agreed to meet in an hour (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): It's been nearly an hour and a half since you agreed to meet in an hour (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): It's been nearly an hour and a half since you agreed to meet in an hour (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "what about the writing?" (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "The theory is it was a cult of personality. The priests worshipping the Pharoah as a unique god rather than the classic pantheon." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "The theory is it was a cult of personality. The priests worshipping the Pharoah as a unique god rather than the classic pantheon." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): "Well, gentlemen, I wish you luck in translating it, and I'll be by to see your progress, but I fear I must leave to meet a prior appointment. (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Never seen anything like that writing." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Never seen anything like that writing." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc- cult of personality...great, now i have that song in my head :P (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): They're ignoring you, engrossed in the new find (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): "ever heard about a cult with grey members?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I'll head back to the front desk, and see if the others are waiting there. I'll also tell the linguists to send Roland there, if he returns to the department. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You find Roland waiting where you agreed to meet (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william looks at Eric (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric turns to William, "What?" (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Several cover themselves in ash, if that's what you mean..." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Several cover themselves in ash, if that's what you mean..." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Oh good. I was afraid for a moment you might be lost. Now where are the others? (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "um....nevermind....so, is it possible that there are still surviving members of this cult?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I was waiting for them here. What did you find in linguistics? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "Oh no, they were all wiped out in the conflicts at that period" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "Oh no, they were all wiped out in the conflicts at that period" (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): Eric shrugs, and decides to keep his mouth shut about the grey guys (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "what kind of conflicts?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Well, they're still arguing things down there. They seem to have started to figure it out, but right now they can't even tell us the language group it belongs to, much less a translation. (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "any major one in particular?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, I have another copy so it will be fine for them to keep the one I gave them. I suppose we can come back in a few days." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "There was a civil war at that time. That's why it's the end of the fourth dynasty, after all." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "There was a civil war at that time. That's why it's the end of the fourth dynasty, after all." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Hmm. Should we walk over to the Anthropology department and look for the others? (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "did the members of the cult dress any certain way or have any particular traits or ceremonies that set them apart?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "That would be fine with me. Maybe they got lost again." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "There just isn't enough information. Egyptian kings often wiped out the records of their predecessors to make room for their own glories. There were thrity dynasties after them doing that." (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "There just isn't enough information. Egyptian kings often wiped out the records of their predecessors to make room for their own glories. There were thrity dynasties after them doing that." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william nods "i see..." (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william goes back to reading the book (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ooc-is Early with us? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): James (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): James (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Sorry (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Sorry (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I'll start walking to Anthro (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): James (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): James (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): me too (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): ah...okay (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Okay, Alex can easily navigate the maze of hallways below the museum to locate the anthopology department (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Okay, Alex can easily navigate the maze of hallways below the museum to locate the anthopology department (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ooc I thought Early was with us, oh well (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "Doctor, would you say the cult of the black pharaoh is dangerous?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Are the others around here? (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): This is one room wth several offices off of it (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): This is one room wth several offices off of it (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): "or was dangerous, rather" (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): You don't see them immediately (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): You don't see them immediately (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): "I can't be certain of what their practices are" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): "I can't be certain of what their practices are" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): well, unless they're wandering aimlessly they should be here. Lets ask around and see if they've left yet." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): I'll look around for them. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): "Oh those two fellows? They're in Dr. Wilton's office right there." (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): "Oh those two fellows? They're in Dr. Wilton's office right there." (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Stop whispering guys (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Stop whispering guys (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Open chat now (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): Open chat now (William Hollis whispered to Keeper): william nods "how about the cult of the bloody tongue, is there anything important you can think of to tell us about them?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): "Well, lets join them." (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Indeed [Keeper]: Not much more than is in the book (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): ooc and we can all stop whispering! Eric Macaulay is relieved he can finally express himself properly William Hollis keeps reading the book [Keeper]: "They died off as well when Europeans took the country." [Eric Macaulay]: "I'm not so sure they have died off." [Keeper]: Alex and Roland walk into the office [William Hollis]: "yes, i'm sure they did doctor...." [Roland Windemeer]: "Hello gents, how is it coming [Roland Windemeer]: .'er , ? [William Hollis]: "hey Roland, look what i found...." William Hollis shows roland the book [Eric Macaulay]: "uh huh, seems we've hit some sort of gold mine here" [Roland Windemeer]: "Great, what is it?" [Alexander St. James]: Something useful, then? [William Hollis]: "How did you guys make out?" [William Hollis]: "very useful....been looking for this book ever since this whole business began" [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, they are quite excited over at linguistics but they haven't made any progress yet. I think we should give them a few days." William Hollis continues reading the book and taking notes [Alexander St. James]: Well, the manuscript certainly caused some excitement in Linguistics, but they can't translate it yet. [Roland Windemeer]: So what is this book? [William Hollis]: "oh yes, meet the good doctor here, he's been telling us all about the cults" [Keeper]: "You two aren't from the press, are you?" [Roland Windemeer]: "Greetings sir. It is certainly good to meet you if you can shed some light on our investigations." [Roland Windemeer]: "No we're archeologists." [William Hollis]: "this is the book that keeps turning up missing from everywhere i've looked....it tells about different expeditions and their run ins with cults" [Alexander St. James]: Anything in there that sounds familiar? [Roland Windemeer]: any mention of carlyle, or is it too old? [Eric Macaulay]: "There have been quite a few encounters with that book, including a spring loaded cat : ) " [William Hollis]: ooc-is there? and have i finished reading that section yet? [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh the book from Mrs. Carlyle? [Keeper]: Way too old [Eric Macaulay]: "Yes I believe so." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, any information about the area the Carlyle expedition was exploring?" (Keeper whispered to William Hollis): The cult was based in that area... [Keeper]: Hello? [Alexander St. James]: ooc Still here [Eric Macaulay]: "Yes?" [Keeper]: Just making sure the connection is still alive [William Hollis]: Just that the cult of the bloody tongue was based in that area [Roland Windemeer]: ooc hi [Roland Windemeer]: "Bloody tongue aye? Interesting. What do we know about them?" [Keeper]: "My office is not a confrence room, gentlemen." [Eric Macaulay]: whispers to Roland, "If you've got inquiries about our Grey friends, I think this is the guy to ask, but William wasn't liking me asking questions." (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): Why is that, you think? [William Hollis]: "Thank you for your time doctor, you have been very helpful....anyone have anything they want to ask so we can leave the good doctor alone?" [Eric Macaulay]: "Are you done reading William?" (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): Do you know anything about grey men from Cornwall? [Roland Windemeer]: oops let me try that again [Roland Windemeer]: "Professor, do you know anything about grey men from Cornwall?" [Eric Macaulay]: "What do we know about the Bloody Tongue? Well we know they are dangerous, very dangerous. And contrary to the good doctor, that cult is quite alive and kicking." [Eric Macaulay]: "But we don't need to worry the good doctor about those details, we can explain later." [Keeper]: "Gray men? No, and no pixies, bogarts, or hobgoblins either." William Hollis keeps reading the book [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh, well I met a couple of odd gentlemen on the boat over who had a peculiar grey pallor to their skin. They were headed to Cornwall, and we believe they had nefarious purposes." [Alexander St. James]: I think my friend is referring to some sort of druidic cult. Perhaps in a coastal region. Worshippers of a sea god or somesuch? [Keeper]: "The romans killed all the druids. There are no more of them left, either." Eric Macaulay grumbles to himself, "it seems all the cults are gone...hmph! If he only knew." [Alexander St. James]: Then perhaps someone acting in conscious imitation of druidic cults? [Eric Macaulay]: hello? [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, how can you know that. Certainly all peasants were not killed. Some of them must have retained some knowledge to today." [Eric Macaulay]: uh can anyone read this? [Keeper]: yes [Eric Macaulay]: ok sorry [Eric Macaulay]: ooc I typed a whole bunch of stuff, and it just showed up [William Hollis]: did someone say something? :P [Keeper]: "Who would want to immitate druids? We don't have any idea of what they did." [William Hollis]: "doctor, you don't think any of these cults are still surviving today?" [Alexander St. James]: Hmm. Good point, although I'd like to say that a lot of people might wish to claim connections to mystical groups like the druids. [Keeper]: "Of course not. Most of the Christian faiths stamped them out centuries ago and when we find a new one it quickly fades away as well." [William Hollis]: "would you be interested in going on an expedition with us doctor?" [ bcr19374 joined the game ] [Keeper]: Again? [Eric Macaulay]: huh? [Eric Macaulay]: I've got two bcr [Keeper]: bcr's got something funky going down [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, I suppose we've taken enough of your time. Maybe we should be going?" [bcr19374]: ooc yup. I noticed that an "array out of bounds exception" was thrown in my dos box [Keeper]: "No, I'm quite comfortable here. Good day, gentlemen." [ bcr19374 left the game ] [Roland Windemeer]: I don't know what I'm doing that's screwing it up [Alexander St. James]: Good day to you, doctor. [bcr19374]: I think it might be overflowing a buffer somwhere [Keeper]: Wow! I got a five second ping from bcr before the funkiness kicked in [Eric Macaulay]: "Thank you for you time, you were most helpful" [William Hollis]: "okay thanks for your help...good day" [Eric Macaulay]: "Is there a place we can stop and sit down to talk?" [Keeper]: He gestures everyone out of his small office and closes the door behind him. Roland Windemeer goes out [Alexander St. James]: I take it you found something useful, then? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc are there benches in the halways? [Eric Macaulay]: "Well perhaps, but the real reason were those stairs, and William, James, and I have been walking around for while." [Keeper]: No benches in the hallways [Alexander St. James]: We can probably borrow an empty conference room for a while, if we can find one. [Roland Windemeer]: "well, we can walk and talk." [Eric Macaulay]: "Alexander, you've got point, I would prefer not to get lost again." [Eric Macaulay]: "You seemed to have missed my point Roland....I would really like to sit down." : ) [Alexander St. James]: Ah, we were wondering if you would be able to safely find your way here. [Alexander St. James]: It would be rather an ironic fate- [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, lets find somewhere to sit down. [Alexander St. James]: Survive cultists and sea monsters, only to fall prey to a man-eating museum. [Eric Macaulay]: "Thank you Eric Macaulay chuckles [Keeper]: Well, where are you headed to hoping to find a seat? [Eric Macaulay]: "Alexander?" (Alexander St. James whispered to Keeper): Would I know of a good spot to sit down somewhere around here? Conference room, cafeteria, library annex, whatever? Roland Windemeer searches for empty rooms (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Are things working for you? You're over nine seconds on the ping from me. Are you seeing text alright? (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): well, if I'm missing anything I don't know. (Keeper whispered to Alexander St. James): Most convient place would probably be in the museum itself. (Roland Windemeer whispered to Keeper): I just killed a bunch of internet apps to increase my badnwidth (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Definitely some odd technical problems this week [Alexander St. James]: We can probably find some benches on the museum floor. [William Hollis]: ooc-brb (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Maybe it's WebRPG that's gone sour on us... [Alexander St. James]: We can take a look at the Tutenkamen exhibit while we're there. Roland Windemeer heads for the museum floor [Keeper]: Alex leads you up a back stair into the museum and you find a set of benches oposite the death mask of the young pharaoh... [Alexander St. James]: Here's a nice spot to sit for a while. Roland Windemeer sits [Roland Windemeer]: "So what is so amazing that we can't stand for it?" [Alexander St. James]: So, did you two find something useful, I take it? [Eric Macaulay]: "Well not incredibly useful" [Eric Macaulay]: "But we did finally get a name to attach to the Upside down ankh." [Eric Macaulay]: "And of course we finally found Africa's dark secrets, we've been looking for that for a while." [Eric Macaulay]: "And about the Bloody tongue cult, they are the ones who murdered Elias, and the ones who held William in the cargo hold on the ship." [Alexander St. James]: Must be a fairly widespread cult, then. [William Hollis]: ooc-back [Roland Windemeer]: "So the Bloody Tongues are the upside down ankh people?" [William Hollis]: "no, the upside down ankh belong to followers of the Black Pharaoh [Eric Macaulay]: "uh no, thank you William [William Hollis]: "I don't think they are related to the other cult at all" [William Hollis]: "but you never know...." [Eric Macaulay]: "neither do I." [Roland Windemeer]: "Black Pharoah?" [Roland Windemeer]: "This is new to me." [Eric Macaulay]: ooc of course that is left to be seen William Hollis shows Roland his notes on the Black Pharaoh [Eric Macaulay]: "The doctor mentioned some murders, does anyone know anything about this?" [Roland Windemeer]: "You mean the professor you spoke to?" [Alexander St. James]: So who is the Black Pharoah? An actual Egyptian ruler, or some kind of spirit? (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): They were a cult at the end of the fourth dynasty in Egypt that no one has any real information on except the stories of the Pharaoh they worshipped being a powerful sorcerer [William Hollis]: "that's right, he said the press has been bothering him about some sort of murders [Eric Macaulay]: "yes the doctor/professor" [Roland Windemeer]: "What murders?" [Eric Macaulay]: "I'll be back" [William Hollis]: "yes i believe he was an egyptian ruler in the 4th dynasty was it?" [Roland Windemeer]: "Its all coming back to me now." Eric Macaulay goes off to look for a newpaper, outside the museum, and comes back once he's found one." (Keeper whispered to Roland Windemeer): Last ruler of the fourth dynasty, but all records from that period apparently were purged by later pharaohs (a rather common occurance) (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): have I found one yet? (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Let's give it a few more minutes. (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): ok [Eric Macaulay]: aw (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Okay (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): You got a copy of The Scoop (Keeper whispered to Eric Macaulay): Try viewing it now (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): I would like to read it (Eric Macaulay whispered to Keeper): there we go [Keeper]: Eric's return with a newspaper [Keeper]: returning, even [Roland Windemeer]: ooc this is serious? We live in the Sherlock Holmes universe? [Keeper]: It's metaphorical [William Hollis]: lol [Eric Macaulay]: show's the paper's relevant article to the others [Keeper]: Note the refrence to "Mr. Doyle" [Keeper]: You sent Eric out for the Times, he came back with the Enquirer ;) [William Hollis]: ooc-Doyle=creator of sherlock holmes....just in case you didn't know Eric Macaulay shrugs [Keeper]: Conan Doyle actually, but I copied it word for word Eric Macaulay shrugs about the paper, not about Conan Doyle [Keeper]: "Conan" is part of his last name :) Eric Macaulay already knew that [William Hollis]: "i wonder how many other murders there have been..." [Roland Windemeer]: ooc you never know what goofy thing a dm will come up with Eric Macaulay smiles [Alexander St. James]: ooc Well, perhaps The Scoop doesn't pay that much attention to last names [Roland Windemeer]: "So why was the professor questioned about the murders?" [William Hollis]: "that haven't been discoverd, i mean, besides the 24" [Eric Macaulay]: "I believe it's time for our visit the scoop" [Keeper]: I'll throw all sorts of bizare real-life people at you, but I draw the line at bringing it fictional characters outside of Lovecraft's own :) [William Hollis]: "maybe the press thought a cult was involved" [Roland Windemeer]: ooc ok [Alexander St. James]: Do you gentlemen feel there's some sort of connection with this cult you're looking for? [Eric Macaulay]: "Perhaps, but not likely, but we owe a visit to a certain someone at the Scoop anyways" [William Hollis]: "might be....i think we should learn the name of the victims" [Roland Windemeer]: "Not I. Its not our business to go snooping in every man in a robe, dead body, or mystic symbol we come across." [Eric Macaulay]: "That's why you don't write for Exotic Oddities" : ) William Hollis agrees with Eric [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, if we did that we'd never finish a story." [Roland Windemeer]: "I agree we should go to the Scoop, though." [Eric Macaulay]: "I think, half finished interesting stories are just as good as finished ones, it keeps our readers....hanging" : ) [Alexander St. James]: The readers might think otherwise, of course. William Hollis wonders how many people working for exotic oddities have died under unusual circumstances.... [Keeper]: millions [Keeper]: They never have to fire anyone, just send them out on assignment Eric Macaulay believes he needs more than his two hands and feet to count that much : ) [William Hollis]: always job openings there [Eric Macaulay]: lol [William Hollis]: "okay lets head on over to the Scoop" [Eric Macaulay]: "William do you recall who we were looking for at the Scoop?" [Alexander St. James]: Sounds good to me. [Keeper]: Whoever has the paper can look up their address Eric Macaulay looks up the address [William Hollis]: "i don't think there was anyone in particular was there?" [Eric Macaulay]: ooc I thought there was [Roland Windemeer]: "Well lets go over there and ask about Elias." [Eric Macaulay]: "Mickey Mahooney, if my memory serves correctly." [Keeper]: So, how are you guys getting over there? [Roland Windemeer]: ooc giant eagles? [Keeper]: Wrong author [Alexander St. James]: Maybe, but I think a cab would be cheaper. [Roland Windemeer]: "A cab it is" [Eric Macaulay]: ooc we are curious little fellows aren't we? [Eric Macaulay]: [Eric Macaulay]: [Roland Windemeer]: ooc heh heh William Hollis grabs the paper from Eric and pages through it looking for "other articles" Eric Macaulay Walks outside and whistles for a cab [Keeper]: You don't get those for a few more minutes [Eric Macaulay]: "William look for an article called "Another article". : ) [William Hollis]: "hmm....i don't think i'll find anything like that for a few more minutes" :) Eric Macaulay desperatly tries to flag a cab down [Keeper]: A cab pulls up. "Where ya headed?" Eric Macaulay snickers and agrees Eric Macaulay tells the driver the address of the scoop [Eric Macaulay]: "Only four of us are going to fit, you guys flag another down." [Roland Windemeer]: ooc I forgot we were dragging those other guys around Roland Windemeer tries to find another cab [Eric Macaulay]: "Who's coming? [Alexander St. James]: ooc Now you're just being evil, Joel [Eric Macaulay]: ooc isn't he always? Eric Macaulay snickers William Hollis gets in the cab Eric Macaulay is relieved someone decided to take action Alexander St. James sits down in the cab Eric Macaulay pulls roland in [Keeper]: Okay, copied the newspapers I typed in to those articles Roland Windemeer is getting tired of the poor cab service in this town. [Eric Macaulay]: "James and Early can get their own cab" [Keeper]: The cabs take off and head to fleet street [Keeper]: The address of The Scoop is a run down office building that looks like it gets chosen because it's the cheapest offices available. [Eric Macaulay]: "Reminds me of our office" William Hollis nods [Keeper]: You're dropped off in front of the shabby building where a small staircase leads up to the front door [Eric Macaulay]: "home sweet home" Roland Windemeer goes in Eric Macaulay follows Alexander St. James follows as well [William Hollis]: me too [Roland Windemeer]: What's it look like inside? [Keeper]: You take the hallway up to the second floor where a small sign on the first door says "The Scoop; A Proud Journalistic Tradition For More Than Fifty Years." [Keeper]: Rats scuttle about the baseboards and it smells like the wood is rotting on the steps Eric Macaulay goes through the door marked The Scoop [Alexander St. James]: Dog years, one can only assume. Roland Windemeer stays away from the rats [Keeper]: Inside things are a bit tidier, but not by much [Eric Macaulay]: ooc tidier than our office? [Keeper]: A secretary is just inside the door and she looks up from something she's typing [Keeper]: Before or after ransacking? [Eric Macaulay]: after [Roland Windemeer]: "Hello my good woman. We're looking for Mickey Mahoooney" [Keeper]: It's just a tad tidier than that Eric Macaulay looks carefully at the secretary Eric Macaulay walks around looking around purposely and subtly knocks over a stack of something [Keeper]: She's an older woman who doesn't appear to be very happy to be dealing with you [Keeper]: "Are you bill collectors?" [Roland Windemeer]: "No, we're scholars" [Keeper]: Eric finds old papers going back months piled there Eric Macaulay knocks them all over....subtly [Keeper]: "He's through there." [Keeper]: And you find... more newspapers [Roland Windemeer]: "Thank you." Eric Macaulay quickly makes his way through......there Roland Windemeer goes through to there Alexander St. James follows her directions [Eric Macaulay]: ooc it's not so tidy now is it? ; ) [Roland Windemeer]: ooc wow, there must be a long way away [William Hollis]: we probably just got lost again [Keeper]: You walk through the door to find a red headed guy smoking a cigar. He's a big man, wearing rough clothes. A half empty bottle of something sits in front of him. "Yeah? What do you want?" [Roland Windemeer]: "Do you know a man names jackson Elias?" [Keeper]: "Yeah, I know him. He was here a month ago." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well he's dead now. We're here to find out why." [Keeper]: "That's a terrible shame. How'd it happen. When he was here he was awfully nervous about somethin'" [Eric Macaulay]: brb [Roland Windemeer]: "He was disembowled by crazed cultists." [Roland Windemeer]: "Does this ring any bells?" [Keeper]: "Yeah... he mentioned somethin about cults..." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, why did he come to you?" [Alexander St. James]: What was he looking for when he came in here? [Keeper]: "He sold me some articles over the years. The public eats up gruesome tales like that." [Keeper]: "He kept going over our archives looking for information. He was only here for a couple of days, though." [Roland Windemeer]: "Did he give you any indication that he was hiding or running from someone?" [Alexander St. James]: Did he have an article for you the last time he was here? [Keeper]: "He did leave rather suddenly." [Keeper]: "No article for me last time, just looking for something." [Roland Windemeer]: "And what was that?" [Keeper]: "Ya got me. I can't make any sense out of the articles he was interested in." [Alexander St. James]: Can you show us the articles he was looking at? [Keeper]: "We're a weekly sheet so it's easy for me ta remember what he wanted. Really odd stuff; was interested in a bit I discarded too. I couldn't get a good angle on the story." [Keeper]: Mahoney starts digging around in a pile of papers. [Keeper]: "Hope you don't mind them from the actually sheets; I couldn't find the originals after he left..." [Roland Windemeer]: "We can make do" [Alexander St. James]: I'm sure that won't be a problem. [Keeper]: Mahoney pulls up one paper and circles two articles in it. [Keeper]: Then he pulls open a drawer; "After the first two vanished I stuck this someplace safe." [Roland Windemeer]: "Vanished? What vanished?" [Keeper]: "Well, Elias gave me back the articles he was looking at before he left and I was going to put them back in our files, but they got misplaced soon after that." [Keeper]: [the articles are now readable, guys] [Roland Windemeer]: "Misplaced? What sort of articles were they?" [Keeper]: "The exact text you got there in that paper." [Eric Macaulay]: "Was Elias looking for these articles?" [Roland Windemeer]: "Oh, you had copies? Well, that's good. There have been no changes?" [Keeper]: "I don't know if he's looking for the articles or something else, but he was interested in them." [William Hollis]: i wonder if those were the murders Mr. Fort was investigating... [Keeper]: "Well, I give a bit of personal... you know, whoosh, to help make the story go over better." [Alexander St. James]: I don't know. It seems like we have more than one set of murders here. [Roland Windemeer]: "I see; so what motive do you think someone would have for stealing the originals?" [Keeper]: "Ya got me. They weren't good enough in the original form..." [Alexander St. James]: How were the originals different from the articles? [Keeper]: "I don't remember; less descriptive probably." [Roland Windemeer]: "Do you know why someone would want Elias deaD?" [William Hollis]: "what can you tell us about these recent murders...could you tell us the names of the victims?" [Keeper]: "No idea; he was a nice enough bloke." [Keeper]: "Naw, they're mainly foreigners. People love a good murder, but not when they can't pronounce the name." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, do you know of any organizations that his research might have compromised? Specifically, does the cult of the Bloody Tongue ring any bells with you?" [William Hollis]: "foreigners? from where?" [Keeper]: "Doesn't matter; they're foreigners." [Keeper]: "Bloody tongue? Never heard of 'em." [Keeper]: Hang on a second guys. [Keeper]: Have you read the articles provided? I'm not showing them as having been accessed [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, in all your contacts with Elias did he ever mention anything that could have led to his death?" [Roland Windemeer]: ooc I read them [Alexander St. James]: ooc Yes, I read them [Keeper]: Okay [William Hollis]: i read them [Keeper]: That's odd then [Keeper]: "Nothing to me. Like I said, I don't know why anyone would want to kill 'im." [Alexander St. James]: You said the names would be hard to pronounce. Were they all, say, Oriental or African? [Eric Macaulay]: "Guys it might not be anything related to the Scoop that lead to his death." [Eric Macaulay]: "He looked into a whole lot of stuff, any number of things could have killed him." [Keeper]: "Isn't that the same thing?" [Alexander St. James]: I see [Roland Windemeer]: "We can probably find the names in other newspapers.": Roland Windemeer whispers to the others, "Well , is there anything else we should ask him? I can't think of anything." William Hollis shrugs Alexander St. James whispers, "Nor can I. He doesn't seem to know anything more than you'd expect an editor to know." [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, thank you for your time Mr. Mahooney. If you do come across any information you think may be helpful to us, we are staying at the Gray Inn." [Keeper]: "All right then. You think the killers are around here?" [Roland Windemeer]: "They could be anywhere. I'd advise caution." [Alexander St. James]: If we find anything of interest, we'll be sure to inform your newspaper. [Keeper]: "Thanks, I'd appreciate that." [Eric Macaulay]: "Oh one more thing [Eric Macaulay]: "Anything you can tell us about the current murders?" [Keeper]: "They're all dead; found floating the Thames. It makes for a good story since I can usually do one a week, but every couple of weeks I get a few at once." [Eric Macaulay]: "any particular way the bodies were?" [Eric Macaulay]: "Like say was everything there?" [Keeper]: "Beaten to death and impaled; a good way to go. It's like a new Jack for my papers." [Eric Macaulay]: "Any markings?" [Keeper]: "Other than the beatings and holes?" [Eric Macaulay]: "Yeah like symbols or stuff like that?" [Keeper]: "Naw, nothing they told me at least." [Eric Macaulay]: "Ok thanks for your time then." [Keeper]: He starts pouring himself a drink. "So long, then." [Eric Macaulay]: "good day" Roland Windemeer leaves. [Roland Windemeer]: ooc anyone else want to stop soon? Its after 4... [Alexander St. James]: Any other leads to follow up on today, or should we head back to the Inn and try to figure out what we have? [Keeper]: Well, if you want to stop for today, calling it a day for the characters works as well [William Hollis]: i think we should stop soon... [Alexander St. James]: I'm fine either way [Eric Macaulay]: yeah, about leads though, we need to check on the penhew foundation... [Roland Windemeer]: "The Penhew Foundation is definitely on our list. But it can wait until tomorrow." [Eric Macaulay]: "Anything else we need to follow up on?" [Keeper]: (That way Early can shoot it up ;) [Eric Macaulay]: lol [Alexander St. James]: Ah yes. I'm looking forward to meeting the infamous Early. [Keeper]: It was literally a last minute cancellation for him [Keeper]: Something came up and he contacted me yesterday after five :( [Roland Windemeer]: "Well, lets retire to the inn now. Tomorrow we can visit the Penhew Foundation and possibly see the linguists again." [Keeper]: Okay then, everyone heads back to the inn, except Alex who goes home. :) [Alexander St. James]: I'll see you tomorrow, then, gentlemen. [Keeper]: That session was productive for giving you an idea of what you're dealing with (though I think you guys are going to have some surprises in for you next week...) [Roland Windemeer]: hopefully. Less getting lost in the halls. Eric Macaulay agrees [William Hollis]: yep [Keeper]: You won't have to do that until Cairo [Roland Windemeer]: heh [William Hollis]: at least i didn't almost get killed this time [Alexander St. James]: I swear, those were perfectly good directions. [Eric Macaulay]: we ended up in the wrong side of the building [Roland Windemeer]: boy, I need a nap [Keeper]: I have grocery shopping to do, so goodbye fellas [Eric Macaulay]: bye [Roland Windemeer]: okay, bye [Alexander St. James]: See you later, Joel [ BreakMan left the game ] [ Nameless left the game ] [ bcr19374 left the game ] [ shipwreck left the game ]
